At Online Oceans we're proud to work with leading suppliers of subsea equipment. We recently integrated a Solar Scout with an acoustic modem from Sonardyne International Ltd. This allows the Solar Scout to communicate with subsea assets in water-depths over 3,000m. The result, a real-time communications gateway, linking subsea to satellites.

The 10th Maritime Autonomy Technology Showcase at the National Oceanography Centre has focused on the role of autonomy and challenges for the future. It is clear that full autonomy is possible, and has been successfully demonstrated in many ways, both simulated and in water. Speakers have focused on whether we should and how to overcome the challenges in assuring and regulating the breadth of potential use cases. Key is how a remote operation centre (ROC) could be accredited and whether this will become viewed as part of the vessel and coding. Highlights from day 3 included Matthew Smith outlining a situational awareness design and assurance tool and Nigel Lee demonstrating how AI based software achieved Class Society Certification for ColRegs. There is tangible evidence that Autonomous systems can be trusted to do their jobs - so what training, evaluation and assurance is required to make this happen? The exhibition stands and presentations provided a rich exploration of use cases, possibilities and shared learning from experience. The near future involves subsea robotic residencies and continued development of communications systems. #MaritimeEnterpriseEngagement #OceanHealth #MarineRobotics

Harnessing the power of the sun! ☀️🔋 The Solar Scout is equipped with high-efficiency solar cells from Maxeon Solar Technologies. The low freeboard ensures the cells get a regular rinse whilst also keeping them cool, maximising efficiency. Nothing more satisfying than cruising with only the power of the sun ✨ #SolarEnergy #RenewableEnergy #SolarScout

Recently, we tested a hydrophone to capture our vessel's underwater sound profile, both while underway and drifting 🎧🌊 Using the Porpoise single channel subsea acoustic recorder from RS Aqua Ltd, we gathered important data to allow us to better understand our vessel's acoustic footprint. Stay tuned for insights from this sound characterisation test!

🌊 Endurance milestone for the Solar Scout 🌊 A fantastic couple of weeks of testing, culminating in an impressive 18 hours deployment, thrilled to report the battery voltage remained steady, ending exactly where it started! ⚡ This is a testament to the efficiency and resilience of the Solar Scout’s design. We're making great strides in proving endurance and reliability in real-world conditions. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to push the boundaries of ocean robotics! #OceanRobotics #Innovation #SolarScout #MaritimeTech #SustainableEnergy #FieldTesting
