Supporting civil servants who deliver frontline services to UK citizens

About us

The Operational Delivery Profession (ODP) is the largest of the 28 Civil Service Professions. Our work supports around 250,000 operational delivery staff across the UK, and many working in consular offices abroad. Operational Delivery Profession (ODP) colleagues are the face of government. They are the point at which citizens experience government. Civil servants are recognised as members of the ODP if they: deal directly with, provide support to, or manage people who deal directly with citizens or businesses. Operational Delivery colleagues work in a multitude of departments and agencies across government, undertaking a wide variety of activities to provide and support frontline services to millions of UK citizens at home and abroad every day. That might be in issuing passports or driving licences, collecting taxes, paying benefits, or supporting the administration of justice in a court. ODP aims to: - promote operational delivery as a profession - develop transferable skills and capability that are recognised across government and the wider economy - improve customer service and achieve the same status as more established professions. To support these aims, ODP helps operational colleagues to develop the flexibility and skills needed to be able to move across a range of operational roles in government. This offer is based on building existing cross-government capability and future needs that meet the aims of ‘A Modern Civil Service’.
