Our business has been rooted by the foundations that Mike Brook laid more than 40 years ago, and everything we have done since follows and honours his guiding principles. Now, as we continue on our path of growth, his approaches provide our north star and remind us of the significance in everything we do going forward — for people and plant, since 1982. Thank you ProFound - Advisers In Development for the kind words of support.

📬 A few months ago, we received one of the most outstanding letters in our mailbox. 🌳 🌿 The letter, signed by Mike Brook, owner and founder of Organic Herb Trading, shared his wishes for the future of his over forty-year-old business, now that he is beginning to step away from the company.     For us, it was outstanding because he managed to simplify, in such an approachable way, so much essential knowledge.    🌱 When Bert-Jan Ottens, founder and owner of ProFound, met Mike in 2006, it quickly became evident that he was not afraid to do what it takes to develop outstanding projects that support people, their economies, and regions. His knowledge and passion quickly became a source of inspiration for the entire ProFound team, and a solid friendship based on collaboration was born. 🌻 Mike has worked tirelessly to prove that bringing traditional uses of medicines and herbs to the market is possible with respect and fairness. 💐 Since the birth of the company, Organic Herb Trading has been a pioneer in developing markets for traditional ingredients used in skincare, herbal tea, food, and medicinal products. More than this, their commitment to organic practices, sustainability, quality, and fairness has become a point of reference for others.    Mike worked with us on the CBI - Centre for the Promotion of Imports from developing countries studies for natural ingredients in health, spices, and herbs, guiding the team in the right direction with his expertise and knowledge of the trade. At BIOFACH, he supported us at the initial stages of the Organic Africa Pavilion, offering his perspective on the market, informing us, while also contributing to the BioTrade project in its initial stages.    🦋 The work that Organic Herb Trading does is a reference for organic and fair trade internationally. They somehow manage to keep it simple: choose organic, be fair, embed quality, and make it sustainable!    Read Mike’s wishes in the link and share your thoughts with us: https://bit.ly/3Ya2YVU #ThisIsProFound #AdvisersInDevelopment #ReGen55 #Sustainability #OrganicTrade #OrganicHerbs #NaturalIngredients #AccessToMarket #CircularEconomy #Agroforestry #MarketGrowth #MarketEntry #MarketAnalysis #StrategicPlanning #BusinessGrowth #GreenFuture #SustainableBusiness #EcoFriendly #Regenerative #BioTradeAsia    Matt Richards, Laura Tucker

🌿Can sustainable sourcing practices benefit the environment, collectors, AND businesses? 🌍 Explore "Healthy Business, Healthy Planet" in the latest issue of Citizen Zero magazine. This insightful article features an interview with Aduna Superfoods Andrew Hunt, who discusses the mighty Baobab Tree, the superfoods derived from it, and how this “Tree of Life” empowers female farmers and entrepreneurs in Africa’s Sahel. “Through our Baobab supply chain, we’ve created sustainable incomes for over 3,300 women, helping them provide food, healthcare, and education for over 20,000 family members.” Andrew emphasises the importance Aduna places on community ownership of access to wild plants and on mechanisms such as FairWild certification, which demonstrates ethical sourcing of wild plant ingredients and fair payment to collectors. This drives sustainable practices in the natural products industry, supports biodiversity conservation, and creates economic opportunities for rural communities. “By teaming up with great partners, we can make a bigger difference, supporting more communities in Africa and expanding our land regeneration programmes. It's a wonderful cycle of positive impact, and although we've already been going for 12 years, it feels like we are only just getting started.” - Andrew Hunt Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/demBSTXk #SustainableSourcing #EthicalBusiness #BiodiversityConservation #ThePowerofWild #AdunaSuperfoods #FairWild

Last week, we had the privilege of visiting one of our main UK suppliers, Organic Herb Trading, and it truly reinforced why we chose them as a partner. We spent the day immersed in discussions around ethical sourcing, organic farming practices, and the care that goes into growing and harvesting botanicals in a way that honours both the earth and the communities involved. Witnessing their dedication to sustainability and integrity reminded us of the passion behind every product we create at Sweet Bee Organics. Partnering with like-minded companies is crucial to ensuring that our products remain pure, safe, and respectful to the environment. Organic Herb Trading shares our commitment to fair practices and natural, pesticide-free ingredients, making sure every product we offer aligns with our values. NERVINES 🌿🌟 The word ‘nervine’, in simple terms, describes a herb or medicine that acts upon the nervous system. Nervines may typically be thought of as relaxing and sedative, bringing herbs like Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) or Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) to mind, but our modern understanding of the nervous system and its interconnectedness with the rest of the body allows us to expand this. Not only are there nervine tonics, nervine relaxants and nervine stimulants (including Cacao (Theobroma cacao), Tea (Camellia sinensis) and Coffee (Caffea arabica), but there are also herbs that promote cerebral blood flow and support the perfusion of brain tissues, like Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) and Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba). Alongside day-to-day challenges of modern life, many women going through peri and post-menopause may be looking for help to relax, ease worry, support sleep, alleviate stress and improve cognition — with such a rich array of plants with an affinity to the nervous system, there is a nervine herb that can support many of these difficult symptoms. Visit our website to learn more about nervines and their varied uses. https://lnkd.in/eykTnVYt

🌿 A heartfelt thank you to Organic Herb Trading (OHT) and Founder Mike Brook for their unwavering commitment to sustainable wild harvesting! 🌱 They have been FairWild certified since 2015.   OHT's dedication to understanding and preserving the traditional knowledge of plant harvesting is inspiring. By prioritising sustainability, treating people fairly and with respect, and championing best-practice in land stewardship, they actively protect our precious natural resources. 🌿✨   In an article titled "Founder's Wishes", Mike captures the principles that have guided his approaches, emphasising the importance of continuing with practices such as wild plant collection. "In many places the practice is dying out, and with it the knowledge of the plants: understanding where to harvest and when, correctly identifying the species, and leaving behind enough of the plant for it to regrow." This resonates deeply with our mission at FairWild. 🙌   OHT's continuous efforts in organic product sourcing, quality maintenance, and ethical practices truly set a benchmark in the industry. We are proud to be aligned with such values. 🤝🌍   Follow this link to read Mike's full message: https://lnkd.in/e9A5dGxS   Read about Organic Herb Trading's Fairwild journey here: https://lnkd.in/d-3Kzpbw   #FairWild #Sustainability #WildHarvesting #OrganicHerbTrading #EnvironmentalStewardship #HerbalMedicine #ThePowerofWild

We have been FairWild certified for nearly 10 years, and are delighted to be extending this relationship with FairWild Foundation by launching the world's first FairWild certified tinctures. For us, product quality begins with how herbs are grown. We choose to work only with farmers and collectors who avoid harmful pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and synthetic fertilisers to uphold organic principles and meet the certification requirements that provide assurance. These principles extend to how herbs are harvested, and the work that FairWild do to safeguard wild-harvesting practises is exemplary. They commit to working with wild-harvesting communities around the world, protecting the rights and conditions of the people that collect wild ingredients, as well as the plant species and their surroundings, ensuring preservation for generations to come — providing fully traceable supply chains that protect people, and plants. HIGH QUALITY ORGANIC MEDICINAL TINCTURES We understand the importance of providing botanical extracts of the highest quality to practitioners and buyers working with medicinal herbs. High-quality, traceable, and sustainably grown/collected herbs have been at the heart of our business for over 40 years. This is reflected in our organic tincture range, where you can find extracts made from both fresh and dry herbs. For us, product quality begins with how the herbs are grown. We choose to work only with farmers and collectors who avoid harmful pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and synthetic fertilisers to uphold organic principles and meet the certification requirements that provides important assurance. All fresh herbs used in our tinctures are skilfully grown and harvested on our herb field in Somerset. Each herb is harvested when its medicinal constituents are at their peak and transferred to manufacturing soon thereafter to craft the freshest extract possible. Our dry herbs are sourced from an established network of trusted suppliers from more than 60 countries, many of whom we have worked with closely for decades. All our suppliers are certified organic. Many are also FLO Fairtrade, Fair For Life or FairWild Foundation certified. To satisfy herbal practitioners that we operate to best practice standards, we work to the standards of the BHMA HerbMark®, a quality stamp providing medicinal product assurance. The method of extraction and ratios of herb to ethanol have been carefully researched to craft an optimal product. Depending on the herb and plant part, we use maceration, infusion, or decoction methods. These techniques, combined with the specific alcohol concentration, enable us to extract a broad spectrum of desired plant constituents from each plant. The resulting batches of tincture are organoleptically analysed in-house before being bottled and labelled. Additional testing options are available upon customer request. Our tinctures are available in 500ml or 1l glass bottles, or in plastic jerricans for bulk (5L or greater) quantities. Our packaging materials are carefully designed to avoid unnecessary waste and breakage. If you’d like to speak to a member of our team about bespoke tincture requirements or to understand more about our range, please get in touch by emailing info@organicherbtrading.com or by calling +44(0)1823 401205. #herbalmedicine #organic
