About us

Dynamic Earth is Edinburgh's world-class Earth Science Centre and Planetarium, telling the incredible story of planet Earth from beginning to mend. With our interactive and immersive exhibition and the UK's only 6K planetarium, we take our visitors on a journey from the very beginning of time to the ecological and climate issues we now face. As a charitable trust Dynamic Earth is driven by a positive belief that people of all ages and backgrounds can be the problem-solvers of the future. We provide outstanding and compelling science engagement to schools, community groups and the public, across Scotland and beyond. Dynamic Earth is also perfectly suited as a contemporary conference or corporate entertaining venue. Offering facilities for a range of events from intimate meetings which overlook the extinct volcano Arthur’s Seat, to gala dinners for up to 550 guests, it’s the ideal unique venue, supporting our charitable mission.

🌍 What an amazing week at ORKNEY SCIENCE FESTIVAL! 🌎 Myself and Lawrence, headed to Orkney to bring Dynamic Earth’s climate themed activities and workshops to Orkney International Science Festival. 🧪I had the privilege of visiting some incredible primary schools across Orkney where we delivered our climate change themed workshops for around 400 pupils across 6 schools! It was wonderful seeing the enthusiasm from the children, their curiosity and energy made each visit special. 🐝 We also attended the Family Drop-In Day, where families were able to participate in our Planet Protector activities including making bug hotels, doing a wildflower bingo, and using microscopes to investigate microplastics. 💚 A huge thank you to the Orkney Science team, lovely teachers, and wonderful families that made this week amazing!

  • Calling all teachers! 📣 Start the new term with a free online opportunity for your class to meet scientists working onboard the RRS Sir David Attenborough. We are so excited to partner with British Antarctic Survey and SatSchool Outreach for this exciting workshop. The research team's expedition is investigating the long-term impacts of climate change on the Greenland Ice Sheet, and its broader implications on ocean circulation and marine ecosystems. As part of this session, learners will have the chance to get a live tour of the ship, and ask the on-board team live questions from their classroom. Book your class slot for Wednesday 21st August here: https://lnkd.in/eDXR84Fp

  • It’s #ShowYourStripes day! No words and no numbers, just a series of vertical stripes representing global temperature rise over time. These climate stripes - created by Climate Scientist Ed Hawkins – show us how global average temperatures have risen over nearly two centuries. Each stripe represents the average temperature for a single year, relative to the average temperature over the period as a whole. Shades of blue indicate cooler-than-average years, while red shows years that were hotter than average. The stark band of deep red stripes on the right-hand side of the graphic show the rapid heating of our planet in recent decades. At Dynamic Earth, we empower people with understanding and empathy for the Earth through compelling science engagement at our science centre in Edinburgh and nationally across Scotland. Our learning and engagement programmes for schools, communities and families deliver impactful experiences which enable everyone to take action for our planet. 🌍
