We were delighted to welcome Health & Social Care students to the latest Care Workforce Development Partnership (WDP) meeting on Tuesday, 26th November, hosted at the Aria Care-run Dormy House Care Home care home. Students enjoyed a tour of the impressive facilities and had the chance to engage with staff from various roles, including entertainment, maintenance, catering, and care, gaining valuable insights into the sector. 💡During the meeting, Skills for Care provided national updates, highlighting the launch of the National Workforce Strategy in July 2024. The Hallmark Foundation shared the success of their recent Who Cares Wins Conference, which focused on breaking down barriers and inspiring young people to explore career opportunities in the Care sector. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) also introduced their SWAPs programme, designed to offer job seekers first hand experience in Care roles while allowing employers to evaluate potential employees before formal recruitment. 💬 Group discussions centred on the sector's ongoing recruitment and skills challenges. Key actions included: ▪️ Strengthening relationships between education providers and employers. ▪️ Exploring the creation of a regional conference modelled on the Who Cares Wins format. ▪️ Developing the SWAPs programme through collaborative efforts between the Department for Work and Pensions, employers, and training providers. A special thank you to Dormy House Care Home for hosting and providing such an inspiring experience for the students, as well as to everyone who attended and continues to support the WDP’s vital work. 🙌💙 Edward Collett, Steven Read – Abingdon and Witney College Vicky Kondal – Acacia Homecare Joshua Thorne, Dawn Harrage, Preeti Mahajan – Activate Learning Carmela Magbitang – Aria Care (Dormy House Care Home) Susan Darling – Berkshire Care Association Joanna Birrell – Berkshire LEP James Gilpin – Department for Work and Pensions Roxy Potts – Hallmark Foundation Suzie King – The Henley College Samia Y. – IBB Law Maria Kavanagh – New College Swindon John Holland – New Directions College Nick Dyche, Evie Bennett – Oxfordshire County Council Rachel Reid (MCIPD)– Skills for Care Richard Burden – St Luke's Hospital Oxford Sanjay Dhrona – The Close Care Home Vivien Gordon – The Windsor Forest Colleges Group Simon Barrable BA Hons, PGCE – Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce Skills Unit #CareSector #SkillsForCare #WorkforceDevelopment #FutureOfCare #CareCareers #WhoCaresWins #HealthAndSocialCare #SWAPs #BuildingConnections #InspiringTheFuture #Berkshire #Oxfordshire #BerkshireLSIP #OxfordshireLSIP #ShapingFutureWorkforce

🚛 Driving Change in Haulage & Logistics! 🚛 On a frosty Wednesday, 20th November, we were thrilled to welcome such a strong turnout for the 3rd Haulage and Logistics Workforce Development Partnership Meeting at Slough and Langley College, WFCG. The energy and commitment in the room were undeniable, proving once again that collaboration is the key to tackling industry challenges. The morning was packed with insightful discussions led by CILT (UK), Michael Page, and the New Futures Network, sparking conversations about the future roles and skills needed in the sector. A spotlight was shone on digital literacy, showcasing how providers are aligning their training with the needs of employers. Another highlight was the powerful message from the New Futures Network, who shared the benefits of exploring prison leavers as a valuable and untapped workforce stream—an idea that resonated strongly with attendees. A big thank you to all our speakers and participants, including employers, providers, strategic partners, and even students, for your contributions. LOCAL SKILLS IMPROVEMENT PLAN (LSIP) BERKSHIRE & Oxfordshire. 'Haulage and Logistics Workforce Development Partnership Meeting' On 20 December 2024, I attended the Haulage and Logistics Workforce Development Partnership Meeting organized by the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce (TVCC) at Langley College. The plan defined four key themes: Partnership, Inclusive, Aspiration, and Career. Here, they prioritized four transferable skills: Leadership and management, Skills for a Net Zero Economy, Digitalisation, and Business and Professional Skills. Each session contained a good amount of industry insights and data analysis which portrayed the industry picture in its current state. 📌 Meeting Highlights 📌 • Welcome Address: Paul Britton, CEO, Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce. • LSP Introduction & Update: Jane Saggers, TVCC, with outcomes from the previous meeting. • Current Training Provision Landscape: Jane Saggers, TVCC. • Future Skills Assessment for the Transport Industry: Chris Markey, Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport. • Education & Training Needs Discussion: Jane Saggers, TVCC. • Recruitment Trends & Insights: Matt O’Donnell, Michael Page. • Workforce Pipeline Opportunities: Sarah Brinleyworth, HM Prison & Probation Service. In the meeting, different stakeholders like industry experts, employers, and recruitment professionals came across presenting their thoughts and future prospects and development plans for the haulage and logistics industry. One of the most interesting parts was how recruiters are considering people under probation service and developing them to convert into skilled workforce. I would like to express my gratitude toward Altaf K., our honorable Director of IMBA, Buckinghamshire New University, for this opportunity to attend the event and understand the current market dynamics of the haulage & logistics sector. In the seminar, he also mentioned how to bridge the rapidly changing industry and the contribution of the education sector to fulfill the current workforce demands. The industry experts mentioned 'Autonomous Drone Delivery' in the supply chain as the future of this industry. What do you think about it? Let me know your opinion. #supplychain #logistics #tvcc #IMBA #bnu #recruitment #skillsdevelopment
