Do good by doing what you love doing? Are you a swimmer? A runner? A gamer? A dancer? A baker? Whatever it is you love doing, why not do it in support of some of the most marginalised children in India this July. We are running Paper Boat's Big July and are inviting everyone to do good by doing something they love. Whether it is being sponsored to run a half marathon, or swim 3 miles or cycle until your legs are numb - anything that you can be sponsored doing, fits the bill. You could host a bake sale or coffee morning or play Tetris for 12 hours. It costs about £3 a day to support the children that we work with and we would love to raise £5000 this July towards that care. Want to get involved? Unlock the infinite potential of every child.
About us
We celebrate spaces where children can enjoy their childhood, delight in creative learning and which instill in them the confidence to set sail and navigate their own unique journey through life, and voyage beyond the known horizon. Creative learning spaces give children a chance to learn about their rights and their own inherent value when they may be otherwise surrounded by negative messages. Paper Boat develops and shares tools in collaboration with expert local partners, strategic partners who help to advise and deliver, and our community of educational specialists. Children can build their confidence, resilience and acceptance of self through creative entry points such as filmmaking, social drama, art, music and storytelling. Every child is supported and encouraged to believe in their own worth and to share their stories and their ideas however they see best. Paper boats are fragile and need to be folded carefully in order to float, but when they are made, the thumbprints and messages that children places upon those seams can be carried to distant places. Dreams and ideas can also be fragile, especially those of children who face rougher seas than most of us could imagine. We are there to equip, nurture, support, guide and invest in their ideas. To believe in them loudly and encourage them that they too have the right to strive for their dreams and to do things differently, and that they are worthy of being at the helm and can steer towards whatever horizon calls them. Creative learning spaces teach children to be innovative, to problem solve and to navigate the rough seas.Evidence shows that creative and critical thinking skills are an essential part of learning, and that today’s solutions will not be fit for tomorrow’s problems. Paper Boat develops and supports programmes and partners that build these skills as children play. Setting sail on an ocean of infinite possibility, so that together we can unlock the infinite potential of every child.

This week we are celebrating our partnership with CEDAR India as we share the exciting news that CEDAR CEO Dr Joseph Chinnaraj is participating in the UNESCO International Forum on the Future of Education 2024 by invitation. He will be sharing the transformative approach to education and learning that is at the heart of our innovative Paper Boat/ CEDAR children's hubs. With CEDAR we share the belief that education must now be redesigned to help respond to urgent and unprecedented new challenges such as the climate crisis, the emergence of generative AI technologies, the continued growth of inequalities and the persistence of conflicts. To thrive in the face of these challenges, we need to take a long-term perspective on how education can help shape more inclusive, just and sustainable futures. It's time to creatively reimagine a future where education creates a more equal future for all in society. A future where children are inspired and enabled to change their worlds A future where the infinite potential child of every child is unlocked #education #reform #equality #learning #children #childrenscharity #creativity #lifelonglearning #art #pedagogy
CEDAR TO PARTICIPATE IN UNESCO FORUM ON FUTURE OF EDUCATION 2024 IN SUWONG, REPUBLIC OF KOREA UNESCO International Forum on the Futures of Education 2024 is to be held in Suwon, Republic of Korea, from 2-4 December 2024. The theme is "Renewing Education to Transform the Future." This emphasizes the necessity of reimagining education systems to address contemporary global challenges and to foster more just, inclusive, and sustainable societies. I am invited to attend the Conference representing Centre for Education Development Action and Research (CEDAR). UNESCO believes that civil society can play a big role in innovating upon and shaping the future of education, especially in promoting community participation and collaboration which is the future for Sustainable Development. As far as CEDAR is concerned, over the past 30 years it has launched several experiments in alternative educational methodologies to promote Total Quality Education, especially among marginalized children. It is a proud moment for CEDAR and me to share our Model. #unesco #education #future #art Arun Chinnaraj Dave Magill Paper Boat Deborah Wetherall Debbie Stenner Bert O'Donoghue Zack H. ⭐️We are committed to building a diverse board of trustees, can you help?⭐️ It is #trusteesweek and there is no better time than this week to invite applications to join our board. Perhaps you or someone you know is the ideal candidate for trusteeship at Paper Boat. We didn't do it on purpose, it just happened circumstantially but we need to make a change to the make-up of our board. At the very frontline of our work, there are 16 powerful and courageous women, working for transformation within their communities in India. Yet, at board level, there is only one such woman. Did you know only 13% of charity boards have gender parity? We've decided that is not good enough for us or the communities we serve and we are committing to making that change. Can you help? We refuse to patronise or box tick, and it would be neither moral, legal or feminist to appoint just on gender alone. We will recruit the best people available. We are committed to recruiting trustees based on merit, skills, and experience, ensuring fairness and inclusivity in accordance with the Equality Act 2010. To better reflect the communities we serve, we welcome applications from women, as we currently have an underrepresentation of female trustees. However, all trustee appointments at Paper Boat are made solely on individual merit, qualifications, and the unique perspectives each candidate can bring to our organisation. This approach reflects our commitment to building a diverse and effective board, while ensuring each appointment is guided by talent and experience. We are also particularly keen to speak to women with fundraising knowledge and experience who can bring wisdom and guidance at board level. Are you qualified and available to be a new Paper Boat trustee? Do you know someone who is? We'd love to hear from you. email dave@paperboatcharity.org.uk for an application pack. #TrusteeRecruitment #BoardOpportunities #DiverseLeadership #InclusiveBoards #WomenInLeadership #CharityTrustee #NonProfitGovernance #MeritBasedHiring #EqualityAndDiversity #PaperBoatTrustees #JoinOurBoard #BoardDiversity #WomenOnBoards #InclusiveLeadership #UKCharity #TrusteeRoles #BuildingBetterBoards #LeadershipOpportunities #CommunityLeadership #ServeWithPurpose

How about some good news for your Friday morning?
I heard a story this week about Ramar. It was so encouraging I had to share it with you! Ramar is a young boy who lost both of his parents over the last few years. He went into care and began coming to our Children's Hub in Kovilpatti. At the hub, the staff teach creative skills that help children grow in confidence. They provide a safe and loving environment so children like Ramar can learn and develop. Ramar took a keen interest in photography, and the team spent time with him, honing his skills. What happens next is amazing! The team encouraged Ramar to enter Tamil Nadu's Neithal Photography Exhibition. I'm excited to share with you that the judges selected his photos. He won an award along with several other children from the project. We are so proud of him. I'm sure you are too! It is all because of the kindness of people like you that we can share wonderful stories like Ramar's We long to see a world where every child, like Ramar, can reach their potential. We are so grateful for your ongoing compassion for children like him. Thank you so much.
