Some years ago, PCi was facilitating a conflict sensitivity workshop with government donors providing assistance in Syria. One of the donors felt the conflict sensitivity tools were telling him that providing humanitarian assistance to besieged areas was likely to do harm. At the same time, not providing the assistance was also likely to do harm. Traditional conflict sensitivity tools were not able to provide answers to this dilemma. We decided to invest time in developing a new tool that would help with decision-making: the Conflict Sensitive Due Diligence tool (CSDD). About us
Peaceful Change initiative is a peacebuilding organisation striving for a world free from violent conflict. To achieve this, we work with communities and their leaders to confront the drivers of violent conflict. Together, we build the conditions that make sustainable peace possible. With programmes across North and East Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Western Balkans, we have a proven track record of achieving transformative change. We establish deep knowledge and strong partnerships where we work. This allows us to do both the long-term work of building sustainable peace and to respond rapidly and effectively to crises. We work side by side with a range of partners and support them with practical tools and knowledge for peacebuilding. This helps to ensure they can be effective advocates for peace in their community, now and in the future. We work only where we know we can make a real difference to people’s lives. Many communities we work with have successfully managed high-risk conflicts and avoided violence, even when formal peace processes have failed.

Humanitarian, development and peacebuilding activities in countries affected by violent conflict impact the context where they take place and the dynamics underpinning conflict. So, how can we identify how our work interacts with complex social, economic, political and historical dynamics that drive and sustain violent conflicts? Our new conflict sensitivity interactions typology tool is designed to help identify of how activities and programmes may affect the context where they take place. It is designed to be used hand-in-hand with PCi’s conflict sensitivity matrix. We stand in solidarity with our Syrian friends and colleagues as this watershed moment in Syria's history unfolds after 13 years of war, suffering and loss. Syrian organisations and activists have been working tirelessly to build relationships across divides and putting together detailed plans for how to build a just and equal society based on human rights principles. This is their moment. We stand ready and willing to respond to requests for support – as and when our Syrian friends and colleagues define their priorities and their needs. Excited to Share My Recent Learning Experience! As part of my volunteering journey with the Community Partnership Organization, I recently had the privilege of participating in a two-day training course on project management conducted by the incredible team at Peaceful Change Initiative. The training was an inspiring and insightful experience. It provided us with practical tools and strategies for managing projects effectively. During the course, my team and I developed a plan for managing a project focused on tackling unemployment, applying the concepts we learned. This exercise helped us connect theory with real-world challenges and highlighted the importance of strategic planning. A huge thank you to Peaceful Change initiative for organizing such a wonderful training course. #ProjectManagement #VolunteerWork #SkillBuilding #ProfessionalGrowth #PeacefulChangeInitiative

The first step of conflict sensitivity is to understand the context. Without some understanding of the area in which aid is being delivered, it is not possible to consider the ways in which activities might affect peace and conflict. Unfortunately, in our experience conflict analysis is often not fit for purpose. Either because its aim is poorly defined, its scope is too great and/or it is inadequately connected to the real needs of programming decision makers. In our latest resource we discuss some of the lessons we have learned about the role of conflict analysis in conflict sensitivity and how to improve understanding of context. The resource is available on the following link: https://lnkd.in/estckhbr

Based on our experience of providing conflict sensitivity advice for over 10 years, we have identified three common conflict sensitivity problems that organisations come up against: Problem 1: analysis paralysis Problem 2: being able to pinpoint exactly how a project interacts with the conflict Problem 3: when there is no right answer Read our latest blog to learn about these three common conflict sensitivity problems and what to do about them: https://lnkd.in/eaEr4j-5

This new resource from PeaceNexus Foundation is a useful for civil society organisations working in the Western Balkans facing growing restrictions to civic space. The publication is available for download on this link: https://lnkd.in/e_dUA-yD
New publication - Supporting Activism in Times of Crisis: Emergency Resources for the Western Balkans In the Western Balkans, emergency support for civil society organisations and activists under threat has never been as important. As civic space continues to shrink, progressive organisations face increased security risks, legal threats and a challenging funding landscape, affecting both individual and organisational well-being. (These threats are both multifaceted and pose significant obstacles to their work and the long-term internal strengthening efforts PeaceNexus supports.) To help us address partner needs and guide CSOs in emergencies, we commissioned research by Tanja Hafner Ademi that shares a wealth of resources for civil society organisations, activists and funders. The report: - Maps the most common types of emergency support being used and offered, including financial (grants), legal, psychological/mental health, digital and security (including cybersecurity) support - Provides insights into private donor and funder approaches toward emergency support, with actionable recommendations for private donors and funders to improve access to emergency support. Are you interested in learning more about what conflict sensitivity is, what it is not, and how it can contribute to building sustainable peace? In the first episode of our conflict sensitivity master class series, PCi's CEO Fleur Just, sits down with conflict sensitivity expert Tim Molesworth to provide a brief introduction to the topic. They outline the key steps involved in conflict sensitivity, and provide brief guidance on how to apply conflict sensitivity as an approach to your work. They also talk through how conflict sensitivity relates to peacebuilding and cross-cutting concepts in good aid delivery such as gender and localisation.
