  • The fintech industry is undergoing a rapid transformation, driven by new technologies and evolving consumer needs. Similar to the internet and the dot-com crash of 2000, the fintech industry underwent a shakedown in 2022 which has helped to weed out the weak business models and showed the resilience of the rest. Today, nearly three years on, we are at an inflection point. While the growth parallels with the internet are yet to fully manifest, as business models adapt to the new normal, shaped by rising interest rates, inflation, and macroeconomic shifts, fintech as a sector is poised to drive growth re-acceleration. Let us focus on a major fintech subsegment: payments – which accounts for around 66% of all publicly listed fintech companies. Three major trends are currently shaping the payments landscape globally: embedded payments, generative AI, and cross-border payments. These trends focus on enhancing convenience, speed, and security, and are being scaled up to meet growing customer demand. • In an interview with City AM, Steven Fine, said the speed of money leaving the market was “alarming” but not enough was being done by ministers and regulators to arrest the trend. “I’m genuinely alarmed at the exodus of funds for 41 consecutive months and the relentless de-equitization of companies, and I think that needs to be addressed,” he said. “If you were considering listing – and I don’t think there’s any shortage of interesting companies that would choose the UK to list – who’s going to buy and where is the demand going to come from?,” Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eH9wRrB5

Ministers must do more to stop the “exodus” of cash from the London Stock Exchange after 41 consecutive months of outflows from UK equity funds, the boss of Peel Hunt has warned. In an interview with City AM, Steven Fine, who heads the AIM-listed broking house, said the speed of money leaving the market was “alarming” but not enough was being done by ministers and regulators to arrest the trend. “I’m genuinely alarmed at the exodus of funds for 41 consecutive months and the relentless de-equitization of companies, and I think that needs to be addressed,” he said. “If you were considering listing – and I don’t think there’s any shortage of interesting companies that would choose the UK to list – who’s going to buy and where is the demand going to come from?” Fine added. • Last night, our NED Network gathered together for an excellent event on pension reforms. It was a pleasure to witness our network of business leaders convene to discuss this significant topic. Thank you to Emma Reynolds for delivering the keynote speech and to Peter Fitzgerald, Sir Nicholas Lyons, and Tony English for taking part in an insightful panel about pension reform, alongside Charles Hall. #NEDNetwork #pensions #ukeconomy

Chief Executive Officer - Peel Hunt LLP

Last night, we hosted a pension reforms event for our NED Network with a keynote speech from Emma Reynolds, Pensions Minister, and a panel discussion which provided insight into the government's objectives with pension reform, the challenges to implementation and the scale of potential impact. It is now a more vital issue than ever for companies across the UK looking to raise capital, as pension outflows continue to impact our economy and capital markets. Pension reform has been in motion for some time now, and Rachel Reeves' Mansion House speech has helped to grease the wheels with plans to pool pension assets and aim some funds into local economies. But bolder and swifter action is needed. It was great to see our network of business leaders come together last night to discuss this important topic. #pensions #ukeconomy #capitalmarkets

  • Supported by volunteer mentors from Peel Hunt, Local Village Network delivered the Amplify Me Programme in New City College, Hackney. The shared experiences of all the Peel Hunt volunteers gave the students different perspectives on life as well as the confidence that they are valued and able to succeed. The different career journeys inspired the students by bridging the gap between school and the world of work, raising the students’ awareness, and understanding of the depth and breadth of employment opportunities that are available to them not just at Peel Hunt, but also in the professional world as a whole. They learned about important skills needed and how to start developing them. The interaction with inspiring role models raised their aspiration, confidence, and resilience. Through taking part in the programme, students gained skills and a mindset that equips them to pursue and achieve meaningful and sustained employment. #education #volunteering

  • Today we hosted a unique lunch event at our offices for IR professionals in the TMT sector. This informal gathering provided an excellent opportunity for attendees to network and discuss the world of public companies. We were honoured to have Isabel Green join us for this event. Isabel, an experienced IR professional, notably served as EVP/Head of Investor Relations at FTSE 20 listed Rolls-Royce. During the lunch, she shared her valuable insights and experiences from Rolls-Royce’s transformation programme, which resulted in a renewed market perception and a 3x share price increase in 2023. The event was well-received, with attendees appreciating the chance to engage with industry peers and gain insights from Isabel's extensive experience. The discussions were lively and informative, covering various aspects of investor relations and the challenges faced by public companies in the TMT sector. #TMT #investorrelations Kate Bannatyne
