About us
Penderyn Distillery was the first distillery in Wales in over 100 years. Established in 2000 after a chat in a local pub, Penderyn has won over 100 international Gold and Master Medals, and exports to over 50 countries. Our HQ is in Penderyn, Brecon Beacons, and we have two other distilleries in Llandudno (May 2021) and Swansea (opening summer of 2023) Tours and Masterclasses are available at all three distilleries. Penderyn use an unique Faraday Still, and now have three of these, which create a new make spirit at around 92%, which means Penderyn's whiskies are light, fruity and flavoursome. They also use a pair of lantern stills to experiment with new innovative whiskies. Penderyn also produces Brecon Gin, Brecon FIVE Vodka, Siddiqui Rums and Merlyn Cream Liqueur.

We are delighted that the Penderyn Swansea Copperworks Distillery was the winner of the “Accessible and Inclusive Tourism” Award at the Swansea Bay Tourism Awards 2024 in the Guildhall yesterday. We have had many people with various accessibility needs visit us, and have been overwhelmed by the response. People cannot believe that not only can they visit all areas of the facility, but more importantly they do not feel singled out. The accessible facilities are designed to flow with the building and not stand out, and all of the special features were designed to make them accessible for all. The ‘copper cave’ experience where people can move through the copper process. So, because of the difference in levels, we were able to have the slope gentle enough for wheelchair users. People do not even realise that they are moving uphill. Many of the ‘easter eggs’ such as little fake mice or a worker’s hat, were all at various levels so could be enjoyed by people sitting as well as standing. When moving into the tasting area we had an awkward transition where the levels dropped 100mm. It would have been easy to install a ramp but that would have forced people follow a different route from everyone else. Instead, we chose to install a ‘sesame lift’ which is almost invisible in the polished concrete floor, Things like induction loops and reception desks with drop down counters are of course included, but these items should be in every building as standard. Many buildings will have beautiful toilets with no expense spared on taps and sinks, but the disabled toilets will have basic plastic Doc M packs installed.

Poblado Coffi have aged a coffee in our Penderyn cask barrel. The first pic is of Richard Edwards, our Llandudno Distillery Manager. Whisky Process – El Borbollon •Farm: El Borbollon •Location: Apaneca Mountain Range •Altitude: 1200-1500m •Process: Washed then Penderyn Whisky Barrel Aged •Varietal: Red Bourbon ‘This is a coffee we’ve been experimenting with and excited about for a while – a whisky barrel aged coffee. Commissioned by the premier Welsh Whisky festival, we’ve teamed up with Penderyn Distillery to make our first ‘Barrel Aged’ coffee – a process involving ageing and storing green unroasted coffee beans in a used Penderyn Single Malt Welsh Whisky cask for 4 weeks. Throughout this process, the green coffee absorbs and retains all the rich boozy goodness that the barrel has to offer that after roasting to a medium profile leaves us with deliciously moreish notes of Boozy Christmas Cake, Dark Chocolate and Toffee, Walnuts, Spice, and of course, sweet Penderyn whisky.’
