Last month we attended the Inaugural National Intelligence History Conference - hosted by GCHQ and Bletchley Park, the first ever National Intelligence History Conference (NIHC) which ran for three days with the theme 'People in Intelligence'. There were panel discussions, plenary lectures, research poster displays, as well as full access to the Bletchley Park site. Our Intelligence Services Manager, Rebecca Jenkins attended and supported Buckinghamshire New University alongside Fiona Galbraith and Shelley Jones where they presented the early-stage research poster on Leadership in Commercial Intelligence, where Peregrine Risk Management and some of our clients have worked with the university to put together some vitally important research into the sector. Amongst the 60+ speakers, there were some fantastic sessions, with a talk from Helen Fry who spoke about the importance of the Women in Intelligence during WW2, as well as Professor Richard Aldrich and his talk on Spies, Secret Intelligence and British Prime Ministers. Over the last 12 months we have worked closely with the University of Bristol offering student placements, which has been led by our Intelligence Services Manager Rebecca Jenkins. The Professional Liaison Network invited Rebecca to mentor one of their fantastic students and last week Rebecca attended the University of Bristol 'Meet your Mentor Event'. In the coming weeks we will be supporting a second year student with a keen interest in Security and Intelligence, providing personal one-on-one sessions with Rebecca, and learning of her journey into the industry, which in turn will improve their employability and broaden their professional network. We’re pleased to announce that James Lawrence (Jim ) MSc CSyP FSyl has now joined the TRA community as a #TRAMentor. A Director of Peregrine Risk Management and a Chartered Security Professional, James has over 25-years international security and risk management experience including working in complex and high-risk regions. He’s implemented travel safety programmes to enable safe and secure travel worldwide and recently developed new security, transportation and incident management chapters for the ABTA Tourism Accommodation Health & Safety Technical Guide. With a Master’s Degree in Risk, Crisis and Disaster Management he possesses vast expertise in the delivery of global risk management and security services and was recognised as CIR Risk Management ‘Risk Manager of the Year 2023’. On becoming a TRA Mentor: I’m delighted to have been invited to become a TRA Mentor, I specialise in the delivery of strategic security risk management solutions that encompass crisis and emergency planning, physical and people security, travel risk management, hotel security and corporate risk consultancy, so it’s safe to say that I’ve a passion for anything and everything travel and security risk related! I’ve even been given the title and hashtag #JimLovesTravelRisk! I’ve worked with Bex, one of the TRA co-founders, over a number of years and we bonded immediately over our love and passion for travel risk, so becoming a mentor was an easy decision. Sharing experience and specialist knowledge within the TRA community: I’ve developed and implemented travel safety programmes across many sectors which has enabled safe and secure travel around the world. I’m a Chartered Security Professional and a busy lecturer across the education sector with particular focus on complex and high-risk travel. Recently I was awarded Risk Manager of the Year 2023 at the CIR Risk Management Awards. As well as having a Master’s Degree in Risk, Crisis and Disaster Management, I’m currently working towards a Doctorate in Security Risk Management. In addition to this, I’ve built travel risk management software solutions that are now being actively used across the travel risk space to minimise and reduce risk exposure. I can bring a wealth of knowledge to support the TRA community. Changes needed in the travel risk management space: I would really like to see better standards and application of safer practices across the TRM space and with the introduction of ISO 31030, I hope these standards can be adopted by individuals and organisations. I believe the world is riskier than ever, and organisations should adopt TRM as a key pillar to support safer global mobility and awareness.
