We’re pleased to announce that Emma Lamb has joined the TRA community as a #TRAAmbassador. Emma is a Travel Safety Specialist with 13+ years of experience in the Finance and Tech industries, and that includes being Travel Manager for a corporate bank in Paris. She is a key contributor to ISO 31030:2021, shaping global Travel Risk Management standards, and serves on the BSI RM1/6 TRM committee. Emma oversees TRM frameworks, supplier relationships, and employee training for a 52k+ workforce. Passionate about hotel safety, she developed an audit tool to ensure high safety and security standards in corporate hotel accommodation. An active #GBTA member and now a TRA Ambassador, Emma is dedicated to educating others and enhancing business travel safety worldwide. Here Emma explains what it means to be part of the #TRA community and being an Ambassador. On becoming a TRA Ambassador: To me becoming a TRA Ambassador is all about educating others about the importance of Travel Risk not just internationally but also domestically. Travel Risk has been part of my life for over 14 years and if I can help others understand the importance of this not just within the businesses that they work for but also in our day- to-day lives, we can all travel a little safer and help others be at the forefront of a sector that has been overlooked for so long. Sharing experience and specialist knowledge within the TRA community: I have a wealth of experience in the TRM space and I’m happy to talk to anyone that will listen on the challenges that we've faced, how we’ve overcome them, and how to get stakeholder buy-in when it’s needed. And ultimately, how to build Travel Safety into a programme be it from a security, safety or a medical standpoint. Changes needed in the travel risk management space: For me personally, I’d like to see a change that ensures travel risk management and travel safety becomes part of a travel policy instead of being an afterthought. To help navigate ISO 31030 within travel policies the TRA can help by getting the message out and by educating others from policy owners to the travel suppliers we deal with on a daily basis. About us
Travel risk management can feel like an intimidating journey for organisations to get started in. It’s a fairly new discipline and one of the major parts of it is training and educating. Policies, processes and frameworks are only relevant if the employees are aware of them and the context surrounding them. We’ve set up the Travel Risk Academy to be that place of truth, where TRM enthusiasts new and old can come together to share and learn. It’s a very exciting community to be a part of.

What's a great way to make sure your travellers are safer for every trip, even if each one might be different? This Wednesday, join our complimentary #MeetTheMentors webinar and find out more about how Pre-Travel Risk Assessments are vital now the world feels like an even more risky place to travel around. Our Mentors will cover some of the barriers to using pre-travel assessments, like push-back from travellers, and how online booking tools often configure security as a part of the booking process. As well as factors like having a lack of scope on risks that should be covered and not enough time spent on developing and applying a proper risk assessment. As well as the perennial question from travellers, do we really need to do a Pre-Travel Risk Assessment for every trip? Of course, the answer is yes, if your organisation genuinely wants to look after its people. And as James Lawrence (Jim ) MSc CSyP FSyl explained previously on becoming a #TRAMentor, with the introduction of ISO 31030, he’d really like to see better standards and application of safer practices across the TRM space and that these standards are increasingly adopted by individuals and organisations globally. As the world is riskier than ever, he believes that it’s imperative that organisations adopt TRM as a key pillar to support safer global mobility and awareness. So, Jim sees this webinar as a great opportunity to talk about using pre-travel risk assessments as a really practical step for organisations to build better TRM within their travel programmes. So, join Jim, Carlos, and Jennifer - hosted by Sara McKenna, for an hour as they get into some of the detail. Wed, 27 Nov 2024 12:30 - 13:30 (UTC+00:00) Meet the Mentors Webinar Series: Pre-Travel Risk Assessments – sign up here:https://buff.ly/3V2zecu PS. Thinking about how to keep your travellers safe even before they head out the door? Next Wednesday, jump into our complimentary #MeetTheMentors webinar and find out why sometimes Pre-Travel Risk Assessments are one of the hardest areas for organisations to get to grips with. Often there’s push-back from travellers, and online booking tools typically configure security as a part of the booking process. These factors combine and there’s a lack of scope on risks that should be covered and not enough time given over to develop and apply a proper risk assessment. But then again, are Pre-Travel Risk Assessments really needed for every trip? So, join #TRA Mentors Carlos Claro, Jennifer Milton, and James Lawrence (Jim ) MSc CSyP FSyl for an hour as we drill down into the detail. Wed, 27 Nov 2024 12:30 - 13:30 (UTC+00:00) Meet the Mentors Webinar Series: Pre-Travel Risk Assessments – sign up here:https://buff.ly/3V2zecu PS. A great example of how evolving AI and technology is being used to safeguard travellers and enhance travel-related risk management decision-making in a way that's more personalised, timely and relevant. Thx Bruce McIndoe (#TRAMentor) for flagging this - and kudos to samdesk
Congratulations samdesk! This is a big deal and something the #travelriskmanagement (TRM) community has been dreaming about since 1999 when we founded iJET/WorldAware. I am aware of several organizations working on the ability to use #GenAI to produce personalized Trip Briefs versus the current static country and city travel profiles. samdesk is the first I have seen bring it to market but... @samdesk has taken this further. They have coupled this personalization with building the trip brief in near real-time with current collected information and not from the last collected data that could be days, weeks or even months old. From the article... Neufeld said samdesk launched the offering after seeing "a high level of frustration with static risk maps and very high levels of frustration with static country-level risk reports." Such tools often are reliant on human analysts researching sites such as the U.S. State Department's website, and as a result, might not be up to date. One provider, for example, was still showing Lebanon as a "low-risk environment" as of October of this year and hadn't been updated since 2023, he said. Again, well done. Raising the bar for the entire industry and hopefully seeing the annual Global Risk Maps on walls slowly fall out of favor or replaced by thin-film digital signage (search "HD Floor-Standing Vertical Poster LED Display") and continuously kept up to date. https://lnkd.in/eKwz_PB4 McIndoe Risk Advisory LLC GBTA | Risk Committee ASIS Travel Risk Management Community (Working Group) Crisis24 International SOS Seerist Safeture Everbridge AlertMedia World Travel Protection Healix UnitedHealthcare Global Travel Risk Academy The Future of Travel Risk Forum

We’re pleased to announce that Barry Fleming has joined the #TRA community as a TRA Mentor. Barry has extensive experience operating at senior marketing management level within the corporate travel sector for more than 25-years. He’s helped drive marketing strategy and tactical delivery primarily (although not exclusively) for a number of travel management companies that included local national players through to global TMCs. His driving principle is to help shape an organisation’s brand promise so that it’s true to the customer expectation and service experience. Barry shared thoughts on what he can contribute to the TRA community and how he’d like to see change develop across the travel risk management space. On being a TRA Mentor Generally speaking, marketing folk are few and far between across the corporate travel and risk management sectors. So, I feel humbled and grateful to be asked to support the TRA by offering a perspective as a marketing mentor for its community. Sharing experience and expertise within the TRA community I genuinely think we’re seeing the emergence of an intersection for managing corporate travel and its inherent and recognisable risks. It’s potential is to blend expertise from programme management as a procurement discipline, HR initiatives that protect travellers and their wellbeing, along with the safeguarding of organisations and their reputations by risk and security management teams. In order to elevate strategic thinking and support behaviour across organisational functions, collaboration, communication and engagement are essential – and that’s what I’d love to help with. Changes needed across the travel risk management space Innovative technology needs to play its part both as a disruptor and enabler – as will emerging AI applications set to dramatically enhance the speed of analysis and offer predictive perspectives to act on. While Generative AI, like Chat GTP Custom apps, will make short work of turning long-winded and often out-of-date travel policy documents that few read into short, snappy relevant guidance and advisories for travellers telling them exactly what they need to know and when they need to know it. Changing employee behaviour is a perennial challenge for organisations the world over, whether you’re an SME or a global operation. But getting people to understand why you want them to do things differently and make better informed decisions is the key to unlocking the desired change. Whether it’s policy and procedures designed to keep employees safe when they travel, choosing more sustainable options or simply reducing travel costs, engaging with your audience at the right time and in the right way is crucial. As a universally recognised example of outstanding employee engagement practice – even though it’s from 10-years ago - Mondelēz International connected with its 100,000+ employees worldwide to achieve a 20% cost-saving by changing their travelling employees’ mindset. Creating a unique travel programme brand labelled as ‘The MDLZ Way’ it conveyed the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of what it expected of travellers while aligning with a zero-based budgeting initiative designed to save $1Billion across its entire global operation. Mondelez was supported by Advito who helped to design and implement a highly effective traveller engagement programme – see comments for case study. More recently in 2023, as part of its Ambition Carbon Zero plan, AstraZeneca set out to reduced travel-related Scope 3 GHG emissions - 50 per cent by 2030 and 90 per cent by 2045 compared to a 2019 baseline. The challenge was to engage directly with 60,000 travellers across its 90,000 worldwide workforce. Alongside enhanced data reporting built around parameters specific to AstraZeneca’s business goals and operations and more accessible as dashboards, and the promotion of sustainably nuanced travel options (including avoiding short trips, and rail over air in key markets), a critical driver for changing traveller behaviour was a carefully orchestrated communications programme. Dubbed 'Every Mile Matters' it featured timely, relevant and contextual traveller education, messaging and ‘point-of-sale’ prompts. Kerrie Henshaw-Cox, Associate director of business travel, explained” The travel team was at the core of the campaign, answering travellers’ questions and keeping up the dialogue. We collaborated with internal comms teams around the globe to provide messaging that was timely, relevant and in multiple languages.” The campaign proved so successful that it continued into 2024, see comments for case study. What is also clearly evident in these examples is that where an organisation’s culture encourages and enables collaboration across functions and departments, the more aligned the actual outcomes become with the overall business objectives and desired goals. And that cross-functional collaboration of expertise is the very essence of #TravelOptimisationManagement and an approach that the #TRA is strongly advocating for.
