Brilliant to see this announcement today from Department for Science, Innovation and Technology that £11.5m will be invested in 16 semiconductor scale-up projects, fresh off today's publication of the UK's first Semiconductor Sectoral Study that we delivered (Perspective Economics) alongside partners at Institute for Manufacturing (IfM), University of Cambridge and Glass.AI. Lots of opportunity here - over 200 dedicated semiconductor firms in the UK, generating £10bn of annual revenue (2% of global figures), and set to reach £17bn by 2030 - supporting over 86,000 jobs across UK supply chains. (More to come - we've been ramping up our data capabilities, and will be launching some new solutions later this year to further enhance and provide deep analysis of some the UK's most critical sectors and technologies...)
From phone screens, to surgical lasers, semiconductors are at the core of everyday technology. This £11.5 million boost will help 16 UK startups drive these innovations, in an industry worth £10 billion. Backing industries for the future is another reason why businesses choose the UK as a place to invest 🙌
