About us

Photonic Science is a high technology independent manufacturer of scientific detector systems covering the range of visible to X-ray and neutron detection. The camera technology offered is wide ranging, from the latest CCD, EMCCD, sCMOS and SWIR sensors to X-ray and intensified cameras and Laue diffraction systems. We serve customers in scientific, industrial, medical and military domains. Imaging systems and cameras sold are designed to customer specific requirements, which can range extensively in environmental requirements with cost effective volume production available for OEM users. Photonic Science’s ability to design and build specialist systems and to undertake R&D projects has given the company’s engineering team a wide range of experience in diverse fields and the ability to transfer this knowledge to our customers.

  • Researchers at Kirchhoff Institute for Physics, Heidelberg University. utilised our Laue diffraction system to evaluate the crystallographic orientation and quality of single crystals of La₄Ni₃O₁₀, a material that sheds light on exciting developments in correlated electron physics and superconductivity. Using our system, the team captured detailed back-reflection Laue patterns, ensuring precise alignment of the high-quality crystals for advanced investigations of the material’s metal-to-metal transitions and other physical properties. This critical step paved the way for their findings.   • We are proud to see our advanced sCMOS detector contributing to ground-breaking research at the ESRF - The European Synchrotron Facility. Recently, our technology played a vital role in in-situ Laue microdiffraction studies conducted on the BM32 beamline. With its high resolution (2018 × 2016 pixels) and precise calibration, our detector enabled researchers to capture detailed Laue diffraction patterns of nanostructures under mechanical stress. The data, analysed using tools like Lauetools and LaueNN, revealed critical insights into crystal orientation, lattice parameters, and material properties.
