British Glass recently revealed its annual Glass Focus Awards 2024 winners, recognizing excellence throughout the glass industry. Today I had the pleasure of spending time with Cadent Gas Limited’s HyNet colleagues Progressive Energy, Viridor and Pilkington United Kingdom Limited and sharing our vision for a decarbonised North West with Ofgem and the Low Carbon Contracts Company. Pilkington plans to use hydrogen to create low carbon glass and Viridor will be one of first to capture CO2 from their processes. This is CO2 reduction on a massive scale and providing industry with a route to decarbonise and grow. Looking forward to working with government over the coming months as the various business models for hydrogen transport and storage are progressed. And the winner is... 🥁 Congratulations to Pilkington United Kingdom Limited, C-Capture Ltd., Leeds & Glass Futures for taking home Glass Focus' Sustainable Practice award for their carbon capture project. This ground-breaking project is part of the national XLR8 CCS initiative, aiming to demonstrate the feasibility of a low-cost carbon capture solution for hard-to-abate industries. 🏭 In December last year, C-Capture's technology was triumphantly demonstrated at Pilkington UK's St Helens site, separating CO2 from the waste flue gas emissions. 🏭 More recently, a trial at Heidelberg Materials' cement manufacturing plant in Ketton successfully became operational. With support from the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero and additional private sector funding, further trials are planned across hard-to-decarbonise industries. If these trials prove successful, we could see commercial-scale carbon capture facilities in action by 2030, potentially capturing millions of tonnes of CO2 annually. An amazing night at the Glass Focus Awards 2024 saw Pilkington United Kingdom Limited UK and NSG Group scoop three award wins in a record performance. Recognising the people, projects and products at Pilkington UK / NSG Group, the winning entries celebrated some of the innovative initiatives paving the way for change in the glass sector, and reinforced our commitment to making progress on product Development, Diverse talent, and Decarbonisation in the UK, with success in the following categories: - “Innovative solution” went to Pilkington UK and ZYTRONIC for our transparent, conductive glass, powered by NSG TEC™. - “Sustainable Practice” was awarded to Pilkington UK, C-Capture Ltd. and Glassfutures for our cost-effective carbon capture solution at Greengate Works. - "Strengthening business through people" was presented to NSG Group for initiatives to support, empower and develop women in the workplace. Well done to Neil Syder of Pilkington United Kingdom Limited for winning the TV at the recent Glass Times Epsom Race Day charity raffle! The TV was presented by Mark Walker to a representative of Neil, who was unfortunately on holiday.

Strengthening our business, one female at a time: The NSG Group has been nominated for the Strengthening Business Through People award at the #GlassFocusAwards24. This recognises our dedication to improving the representation of women in the workplace. Upon reviewing the NSG Group workforce, we found that only 16% of our employees are female, with 24% of our UK management population being women. To increase the diversity of our current and future workforce, we are implementing an action plan to ensure female colleagues feel engaged and motivated; to in turn, see an increase in female retention and development rates. This action plan focuses on five areas: upskilling, engagement, empowerment, education, and information. One example of how we are meeting our upskilling goals is through our Women in Leadership program. To date, 14 women have completed this program, and of those, 12 have since developed into new roles or taken on increased responsibilities in their areas. Commenting on the Women in the Workplace award, @Emma Neal HR Direct for UK and Global Functions said "I’m so pleased that we’ve been recognised for some great initiatives taking place across NSG Group that support women.
