“Joy and energy!”, “Magical and rewarding!” If four words were used to sum up Open Farm Sunday, the two farmer hosts - Andy and Laura - nailed it! Speaking at the UK House of Lords event today, organised by LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) to launch the 2025 #OpenFarmSunday campaign, we heard why it’s never been more important to commit to Cultivating Connections. With a room of people representing the whole food and farming supply chain, the purpose is clear. We all have a role to play to connect the public with farmers, food and farming with nature. Pinstone | B Corp is delighted to be working with the amazing team behind Open Farm Sunday for another year. In a week where farming has led the news and dominated the mainstream agenda, Helen Maiden reports on what was an emotive day, with farmers from far and wide descending on London in their thousands. Touching on the power of visual storytelling and how in the fight for family farms, bringing clarity to a complex issue boiled down to showcasing those who are most affected. "A picture says a thousand words, and the images of the children on their tractors has done just that. They have humanised the issue, showcased the stakes, and drawn attention to the wide reaching, generational impact of these proposed changes. The children in those photos are the reason we fight. They are the reason we showed up." Helen said: "Standing shoulder to shoulder with my mum, mother-in-law, sister, and nieces, representing two family farms, I felt proud to be there."

This week, two major events in the advertising and PR world underscore the need for integrity and transparency in storytelling. Firstly, the Advertising Standards Authority released new guidelines to sow the seeds of compliance for communicating and promoting regenerative farming initiatives with confidence. This coincided with the much-anticipated launch of this year’s Christmas advertising campaigns John Lewis & Partners Tesco. It is often an evocative reminder of the power of emotive storytelling and putting your audience front and centre of any campaign to capture attention. What was your view of the ads that dropped? As these two moments intersect, they highlight the importance of balancing compelling narratives with substantiated claims, especially for brands in agriculture, food, and environmental sectors. For companies addressing rural and agricultural audiences, this means navigating an increasingly complex landscape where consumer expectations and regulatory demands are growing. See more view on this from Hannah Lloyd on our insights blog. #PR #Storytelling #Advertising #integrity #agency

Budget a reality check for British farmers! Rebecca Morgan reports on how the latest budget has delivered a stark reality check for the agricultural sector, with serious implications for family farms, food security, and the wider rural economy. With her experience as a farmer in South Shropshire and as an associate director at Pinstone | B Corp Rebecca shares first-hand insights on what this means for farms like hers and the need for better communications to change the perception of farmers and the value they deliver. This budget decision reveals a clear disconnect between Government perception and farming realities. The view of farmers as “wealthy landowners” overlooks their vital role in food production, environmental stewardship and rural communities. Bridging this gap is essential, as public support remains crucial for the future of UK farming. Rebecca highlights that campaigns like Farmers Guardian "Save Britain’s Family Farms" are an important step toward raising awareness and understanding of the value family farms deliver. With new APR policies on the horizon, family farms face tough decisions, potentially impacting generations, with little incentive to invest and grow businesses. On November 19, Rebecca will attend the NFU (National Farmers' Union) London rally to push for a Government rethink, adding her voice to those fighting to protect the future of British farming. #SupportBritishFarming #Budget2024

We had the pleasure of attending yesterdays British Guild of Agricultural Journalists harvest service and lunch. Affectionately termed ‘GAJ’ as pointed out by Thomas Martin our guest speaker who is affectionately known himself at ‘Farmer Tom’, it was a celebration of all things agricultural communications. It was discussed how we all have a role to play - PR and journalists - to tell the right story for our industry and portray the farm to fork story and the many facets and nuances that are intrinsically weaved through our special sector. Lovely to catch up with all our friends in the GAJ. Hannah Lloyd Helen Maiden Diane Bristow Rosie Williamson Pinstone | B Corp
