At today's NATO Cyber Defence Conference, UK Government has announced the new Laboratory for AI Security Research (LASR), which Plexal is proud to be part of. To boost Britain’s cyber resilience and support growth, LASR partners include the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, GCHQ, National Cyber Security Centre, UK Ministry of Defence’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl),The Alan Turing Institute, AI Safety Institute, the University of Oxford, Queen's University Belfast and Plexal. Delivering a speech at the NATO event, the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster said: "Cyberwar is now a daily reality. One where our defences are constantly being tested. NATO needs to continue to adapt to the world of AI, because as the tech evolves, the threat evolves. We have to stay one step ahead in this new AI arms race. "And I am pleased today to announce that we are launching a new Laboratory for AI Security Research at the University of Oxford. It is backed by £8.2 million of funding from the UK government’s Integrated Security Fund. The lab will pull together world-class industry, academic and government experts to assess the impact of AI on our national security." Plexal will play a fundamental role in convening LASR's multi-disciplinary approach by driving collaboration between stakeholders from across the global technology ecosystem. This will focus on leading engagement with industry, creating opportunities to address real-world security needs that are emerging through increasing AI adoption and commercialising novel innovations in collaboration with startups, investors and academic institutions that could address strategic challenges facing government and businesses across the UK. This builds on Plexal’s rich heritage in supporting the UK Government’s cyber and national security agenda, having previously delivered innovation programmes such as LORCA, NCSC For Startups and Cyber Runway. Saj Huq, CCO and Head of Innovation at Plexal, said: "The adoption of AI presents tremendous opportunities for economic growth and societal benefit but, as with any disruptive technology, increasingly presents novel threats too. Plexal is proud to be part of this world-class partnership that will deliver essential work to mitigate the increasing real world risks associated with AI. "In keeping with this, we'll drive the secure adoption and development of breakthrough solutions that can further enhance the resilience of both public and private sectors, creating new vectors for the growth of the UK’s world-class tech ecosystem too." Yesterday, as part of the newly formed Laboratory for AI Security Research, Plexal, in association with our partners The Alan Turing Institute & University of Oxford, hosted an amazing group of people to take part in an AI & Financial Services Forum. We used this opportunity to announce the launch of LASR and commence discussions on the key barriers to adoption of AI & AI security within Financial Services. Saj Huq our CCO & Head of Innovation kicked us off and explained how the adoption of AI presents tremendous opportunities for economic growth and societal benefit but, as with any disruptive technology, increasingly presents novel threats too. Plexal is proud to be part of this world-class partnership that will deliver essential work to mitigate the increasing real world risks associated with AI. In keeping with this, we'll drive the secure adoption and development of breakthrough solutions that can further enhance the resilience of both public and private sectors, creating new vectors for the growth of the UK’s world-class tech ecosystem too. I had the pleasure of being invited to attend and immersed into an AI Accelerator Event Plexal Along with colleagues and industry experts, the day was centred around the new LASR initiative announced by HMG on Monday - In partnership with key industry and academia. The day was in the diary under a cloud of secrecy but we knew there was an air of excitement as we trusted our friends at Plexal when they said ‘it’s going to be good!’ And finally the programme was announced on Monday. Focusing on the tools we need to embrace the next wave of AI, how do we engage people, have the right expertise, what tools do we have, what regulation needs to look like. The first of many opportunities to collaborate under this new partnership and support the UK through this new age. Lloyds Banking Group are here for it! Incredible experience spending today with Plexal, at #hereeast contributing to the launch of the UK Government’s Laboratory for AI Security Research (LASR) Programme! The LASR, is an initiative by the UK Government focused on advancing security in artificial intelligence. You can read more here on the announcement made earlier this week at the NATO Cyber Defence Conference. https://lnkd.in/eWdHfN8B As AI becomes increasingly integral to our daily lives, ensuring its safety, security, and ethical implementation is more important than ever. LASR brings together leading researchers, technologists, and policymakers to address critical challenges in AI security and build a foundation for trustworthy AI systems. Being part of this programme is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research that not only safeguards technology, but also empowers industries to innovate responsibly. I’m particularly passionate about exploring solutions that enhance resilience, mitigate risks, and ensure AI benefits within financial services. Excited to collaborate with brilliant minds from #thealanturinginstitute and #oxforduniversity on this journey! If you’re interested in the intersection of AI and security, I’d love to hear your thoughts. #AI #CyberSecurity #LASRProgramme #Innovation #TrustworthyAI #ResponsibleTech

The BBC is running Scam Safe Week, a special programming series across platforms to spotlight protective measures. The BBC’s Chief Content Officer, Charlotte Moore, says: “With fraud now making up over 40% of all crime in the UK, raising public awareness is more important than ever.” So with that in mind, can you hack into a bank account using AI voice cloning? BBC Radio 4 reporter Shari Vahl has investigated whether the growing field of AI voice cloning can be used to bypass security systems that require voice ID. Saj Huq, Plexal CCO and National Cyber Advisory Board member, joined Shari on BBC Radio 4 in line with her investigation. Sharing thoughts on the threat of AI going unchecked, he said: "I'm really concerned, this is a serious issue. As a country and society, this is just one element of the risks that the proliferation of generative AI presents. We on the defensive side can't slow down our rate of innovation and adaption of technologies to safeguard consumers." “We are a place where innovation happens, surrounded by the energy and dynamism of incredible private-sector startups. This gives us the credibility to make an impact on the science and technology policy agenda and support government-led innovation.” In our latest Impact Report, CEO Andrew Roughan explains how Plexal is bridging the gap between government, industry, and academia through partnership. Whether it’s collaborating with the UK Government, working with clients like Google or Airbus, or supporting scaling companies like My Life My Say and Canopy – Plexal is a unique innovation centre that’s a trusted partner to organisations large and small. Reflecting on how far Plexal has come since 2017, Andrew explains how the company's partnerships exemplify its continued growth journey at HERE EAST, offering a unique blueprint for others to learn from: “It is a fantastic case study of collaboration and clustering that we are now seeing organisations around the world looking to replicate.
