It has been nearly a year since I last added to one of the regular PYP posts. There have been various reasons. PYP has gone through growth and change, while continuing to deliver for clients, building strong relationships, developing leaders and teams, enhancing the confidence and self belief of people to deal with a whole range of situations, including conflict and aggression all while facilitating meaningful change. I have had numerous comments on the fact that I have not been posting and how they missed it. To them I say thank you and don’t worry, there is plenty to come! I have to admit, I had got out of the habit. Yes, sometimes even the people helping you develop and maintain those good practices don’t demonstrate them themselves! There are Doctors who smoke, drink and eat fatty food! One thing that has been proven time and time again is the power and simplicity of the PYP model of Communication, Personal Brand, Personal Development and our Trademarked Triangle of Potential. It is that which has prompted this post. So to the story! I was recently bidding for a piece of business and was required to provide references to vouch for and evidence the quality of previous work and service. I was obviously able to give the names of various people to utilise, some of whom I had not worked with for a number of years. The people provided appropriate references and the business was won. The established personal and business brand that had been built up over time, even if not recently, enabled these people to provide these references. Always remember, your reputation precedes you so it is worth working hard to ensure it is a good one! The real power came, when I communicated with the reference providers to say thank you for their support and how appreciated it was. Never under estimate the power of a thank  you! When communicating with clients, staff, colleagues or anyone, it is important to make them feel valued, they didn’t have to respond, to say thank you was the least I could do. Make the focus of your communication the recipient, understanding their point of view, that it is not what you say but how you say it and ensuring that it lands how you intended. You might be just be surprised by the result! In this case, as a response to these notes of thanks, I received one immediate new engagement and further opportunities in 2025! PYP describes personal development as understanding peoples view of the world, being able to see their perspective and being able to align with it for mutual benefit. It is the third key aspect of the model and in our view is as equally important as the others. Using these former clients as references and thanking them for their support our activity had realigned with their immediate and future need, positioned us as a problem solver, making their life easier. If you are looking to grow yourself or your business, don’t forget the power of mutually beneficial relationships and the people you surround yourself with!
