It’s Friday afternoon and you have likely come to the end of another busy week. For many of you, it will have been a week full of meetings! Ask yourself, have those meetings been a valuable use of your time? Have they had meaningful agendas, have they delivered worthwhile actions and are people now executing them? Did everything you prepared go to plan? Have things moved forward as a result of you bringing or being part of the people getting together? Meeting management is one of the biggest challenges for Powering your Potential clients. Too often they are about quantity rather than quality, quickly becoming a habit that fill people’s calendars and impact productivity. They can make people feel busy but in reality make them incredibly ineffective! Too often they result in more time being spent talking about what needs to be done, rather than actually doing it! Too often simply drifting off topic to irrelevant matters that exclude many of the participants. If your meetings are largely remote have you however made time for some of the social interaction essential in building and maintaining effective teams? As a participant, do you prepare properly to play your part? Do you know why are you in the room and what are you going to bring to the table as a result? This is relevant to all meetings but in particular when working with bid teams this is one of the first questions we ask. “You are going in front of a prospective client, why are you here? What do you represent? What value are you going to bring to the process?” If you have got this far and feel your meetings have value, don’t forget they still require significant levels of discipline! They should start on time and finish on time. Meetings that overrun communicate everything from a lack of preparation from the organiser to a lack of respect for the time of the participants. People are busy they have things to do and diaries that are full, if you cannot achieve your objective in the time allocated, then either the objective or the time allocated are wrong! Remember the least important part of the process is often the meeting itself. The preparation of the agenda and objective, the provision of appropriate material, along with enough time to enable people to prepare. Most importantly, actions should be noted, followed up and closed off. If you have achieved the objective early then you don’t have to fill the time, get started on the action! At Powering your Potential we believe, effective meetings should have a purpose, a focus and should operate with intensity to deliver the actions that achieve the objective. So next week, if you are getting people together. Ask yourself why? What do you want to achieve? Who should be involved? Can we do it in less time? Can we be more disciplined? If you get it right then engagement, effectiveness and productivity will swiftly and sharply increase. If one of your actions is to contact PYP, then we will be happy to help!

When people think about coaching, people usually think about teaching, mentoring or consulting. But coaching is neither of them.... 🤓 This distinction is something Jim explained in his session at adplist.org's BeMore festival.... 🎯 Besides that differentiation, another differentiation caught my eye. The difference between empowering and limiting questions.... 🤔 If I were to simplify, empowering questions are questions where you're guiding someone towards critical thinking and problem-solving by themselves. While limiting questions are where you're almost dictating the answer to the questions.... ☁️ Which questions are you asking...? 😁 #ADPList #BeMore #Questions #BrandConsultant

Facilitators amongst you I don't know if you have come across the Pip Decks cards from 🎴 Charles Burdett, but I use the Workshop Tactics set when I am stumped for an idea for a workshop and they always come up trumps. (And they're great for teaching facilitation skills too). Anyway, they've got a good deal going just now with up to 40% off so if you've been swithering about buying them (they're not cheap but I've got value from them) then now's the time. https://lnkd.in/egjuuAKF #facilitation #workshop #creativity Donald Munro Michaela Kast Johannes Hueger Kirsty Lewis Alison Ruddy
