November is always a busy month in the music industry calendar, & 2024 has held true to form. If you haven’t yet read the ‘This Is Music 2024’ report from UK Music Ltd, I highly recommend it. The report shows clear growth in exports, employment, and revenue, highlighting the music industry’s importance to the UK economy. It also outlines key asks around AI, music education, ticket resales, & touring. @PPL will continue working closely with UK Music & its members to ensure the industry plays a strong role in the government’s mission for growth. It was a pleasure to catch up with friends at this year’s Music Industry Trusts Award (MITS) in support of The BRIT Trust and Nordoff and Robbins, where we celebrated Jason Iley MBE, Chairman & CEO of Sony Music Entertainment UK & Ireland. Jason is the ideal recipient of the MITS award, given his achievements in various senior roles in the music industry. The evening raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for the two charities, with great speeches from Tony Wadsworth, Sandra Schembri, & Stuart Worden, and enjoyable performances from Jake Bugg, Cat Burns, Mark Ronson, and Jacotene. I enjoyed heading to Leicester to join PPL PRS Ltd for their all-employee Winter get-together at the impressive Curve Theatre, a leading theatre we support through PPL Giving. I shared my career insights during a conversation with new MD, Greg Aiello, including the journey to set up the PPL PRS Ltd joint venture with PRS for Music. There are now over 400,000 venues licensed across the UK by PPL PRS Ltd. Congratulations to Greg and the whole team for their great work. Earlier in the month, we announced that rachel bolt and Horace Trubridge have been elected to the PPL & Performer Boards. Rachel, an accomplished violist & passionate advocate for improved metadata and legislative changes for non-featured artists, joins the Boards for the first time. Horace brings a wealth of experience from his 8 years on the Boards and his work with the Musicians' Union & International Federation of Musicians. Thank you to Hannah Joseph for all that you have done over the last three years as part of the PPL & Performer Boards. It has been a pleasure for the PPL team & I to work with you & I am sure that we will stay in regular contact.   November also brought many live music highlights, including Squeeze at the Royal Albert Hall, Ezra Collective at Bristol Beacon, & Fontaines DC at Alexandra Palace, alongside performances at the MITs & the Artist & Manager Awards. As we begin the holiday season, it was wonderful to see so many people at our PPL seasonal drinks on Friday last week. Fantastic to be joined by Natalie Wade, who took time away from her treatment for cancer to join us & I know so many people enjoyed catching up with her. I’m looking forward to a strong finish to the year as we gear up for our final distribution payment of 2024 & the end of our financial year. Michelle Escoffery, Stephanie Haughton-Campbell, Gee Davy
