Press Gazette covers the media industry, with a UK and US focus, and runs the British Journalism Awards and other events
About us
Press Gazette started in 1965 as a trade journal for journalists and editors across the UK but has evolved into an online source for media leaders covering all sectors of the global news and media industries, from the national and regional press (both in print and online) to radio, TV, digital, B2B and consumer magazines. It also writes on media law and media technology and publishes journalism jobs. As well as all the essential news, Press Gazette’s content pillars include: audience and business data, platforms and their relationships with publishers, interviews with media bosses and others who are working to create a sustainable future for media, and the weekly podcast The Future of Media Explained. Press Gazette reaches more than 350,000 readers a month via pressgazette.co.uk, and a further 15,000 through its daily and weekly newsletters. Press Gazette’s events include the British Journalism Awards, which have been running for 11 years and are the only event to cover every sector of the UK news industry. More recently the Future of Media Technology Conference and Awards, The Media 100 Networking event for C level decision makers as well as The Future of Media Trends roundtables have all launched. In 2022 Press Gazette's events attracted more than 1,000 senior industry leaders, management and teams across leadership, ops, product, revenue, marketing, digital, content, data, insight audience and tech at every major publisher and media group across the UK and the US.

Google‘s smartphone-based content recommendation feed, Google Discover, has become the single largest traffic referral source for publishing giant Reach plc, its audience director (distribution and customer marketing) Martin Little has said. Little told Press Gazette the rise in Discover traffic had compensated “and then some” for a decline in referrals from Google search — but the platform is yet to become a home for local news: https://lnkd.in/ehDDP7-U

Remember total football, well what about "total audience monetisation"? Senior managing director of Mather Peter Doucette has written a fascinating essay for Press Gazette on the strategy and technology changes needed for publishers to increase revenue made from their whole audience. It involves splitting your audience into three groups: 1) The reader revenue cohort (around 10%) 2) The premium advertising cohort (around 15%) 3) And the mass advertising cohort (the remaining 75%). Doucette, a former chief revenue officer for The Philadelphia Inquirer, sets out in detail how publishers can look to emulate the sort of impressive reader and advertising revenue growth seen at market leaders like The New York Times times.
