AstroForge (YC W22) is making history as the first company to receive a license from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to operate a commercial mission in deep space. Reaching an asteroid is just one part of the challenge in space exploration; effective communication is crucial for mission success. For the first time, a commercial entity has received permission to operate in deep space. This authorization, granted through the Commission's Part 5 experimental licensing, allows AstroForge to establish communication networks with ground partners for near real-time data transmission as their Odin spacecraft ventures into the solar system. This positions AstroForge as a leader in the deep space commercial sector, paving the way for future companies. With the FCC’s approval, they are now fully preparing for their second mission while remaining committed to exploring asteroids for resources to create a sustainable future for Earth. https://lnkd.in/gwHyR-ZE

Saving billions of tons of freshwater requires a sharp pair of eyes. 👀 Hence, a meeting with a satellite optometrist was one of the last tests before shipping constellr's satellite to the launch site. 🛰️ SkyBee-1's twin payload consists of two cameras: 📷 One will see our world in the thermal infrared. 📷 The other in visible and near-infrared (VNIR). Combined, this unique platform will deliver high resolution (10 m GSD), high precision (1 K) land surface temperature measurements and detect heat stress in plants early on to prevent crop loss while saving water used for irrigation. With their upcoming HiVE constellation that was co-funded by the European Space Agency - ESA's #InCubed program, Constellr expects to help save 60 billion tons of water (about 40% global reduction) within 5 years and avoid 14 megatons of CO2 emissions while generating billions of Euros in gross benefits for farmers. We're proud we can support Constellr's journey to achieve these sustainability goals along with ESA, which provided valuable technical expertise and commercial support to the project. A second satellite for Constellr's constellation is already taking shape in our cleanrooms, so stay tuned for both launch and development updates.
