🌫️ Microplastics research started in the 1970s when they correlated it with marine environments. However, only in the last 20-30 years (2010s) have scientists found a link with microplastics and the threat on human health! What are microplastics? They are tiny plastic particles (less than 5mm) that come from many consumer products we use today such as cosmetics, paper cups, bedsheets, skin care, shampoo and more 🤯. I did an interview with an environmental and microplastics researcher, Dana Zhaxylykova who discussed fairly new discoveries regarding how microplastics is linked to health such as respiratory issues, dementia, endocrine disruption, Cancer, and even reproductive issues! A recent study suggests that in utero exposure to microplastics not only adversely affects fetal and neonatal body weight, but also compromises fetal organ development 🤰🏾. More studies are confirming the growing concern regarding microplastics, pregnant women and unborn babies. The full length YouTube video goes more in depth about our daily exposure to microplastics and how to reduce that exposure: https://lnkd.in/euP2QwQ9 If you are interested in collaborating with microplastics researchers, joining studies or wanting to recruit participants for your research projects linked to health, register on our PROBr™ website: https://www.probr.co Source: https://lnkd.in/eMf-z38d
