🗽 Building resilience in US higher education 📈 This week, we're at The PIE Live North America in Boston. QS Executive Director Patrick Brothers led an inspiring talk on Global Flows & Future Workforce Planning yesterday, harnessing data from HolonIQ powered by QS to help institutions understand and predict the rapidly evolving international markets, both in higher education and industry. Today, QS GME Proposition Director Michelle Wieser took to the stage to talk about recruitment resilience in US higher education and how universities can leverage insights to boost international engagement and enrolment. Domestic student numbers have declined by 1.9 million since 2013, representing a 9% decline. International recruitment is a key lever of growth and stability for the US and the country has seen significant growth in international student numbers to US institutions post pandemic. However, global competition is intensifying and the gap between the big four has closed by just under 250k students in five years. The impact of the US elections on 5 November is yet to show an impact on enrolment numbers, but a quarter of international students have said they would be less likely to consider studying in the US following a Republican win (QS Country Perceptions Survey 2024). Leveraging current and relevant data and insights is more important than ever for setting a successful international strategy and Michelle presented five levers of recruitment resilience: 1. Understand and strengthen your reputation 2. Align strengths to recruitment markets 3. Optimize your programme portfolio 4. Activate strategic brand building 5. Deliver an exceptional experience #PIELIVE24 #NorthAmerica #IntlEd #RecruitmentResilience #Insights

We were delighted to co-host a special event with the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) in Beijing. We brought together 20 universities to discuss transnational education in Australia, and the role Chinese students play in this robust market. What did we learn? 📈 There were 178,027 offshore enrolments at Australian higher education institutions in 2022. Over 72,000 of them were from China. 🧭 The offshore TNE market is increasingly competitive, with UK institutions gaining traction. China is a key market – Australian universities must stay attuned to Chinese student needs to ensure continued appeal. 🪴43% of TNE students at Australian universities are enrolled in the Group of Eight, but rank and prestige does not necessarily correlate to TNE success. Victoria University enrols nearly as many offshore students as institutions ranked over 300 places higher in the QS World University Rankings. Want to better understand the preferences and motivations of Chinese students looking to study abroad? Read From China to the World - a new QS report: https://lnkd.in/eGnNMdSm #QSInsights #IntlEd

In a recent article, The PIE detailed how Ireland is seeing a surge in Indian students. Using QS data, we’ve explored why international students might be choosing Ireland: https://lnkd.in/ehEH3FDt 💶 Scholarships and a welcoming environment are more important to students looking to study in Ireland compared to the global average. 📊While rankings and subject reputation are significant factors, they are less important to Ireland-bound students than the average.
