Quite right Katie. How does a practice build, invest, plan when this level of uncertainty exists. In recent years we have even had a Health Secretary supporting the idea of buying back all GP owned premises at a cost of billions. Did he not think that might influence partners buying in/joining practices? The fundamental problem is inept leadership and governmental mistrust of GPs. Don’t they learn? What is clear is that government departments were unprepared for Rachel Reeves increase in NIC. So sort it out for goodness sake! L

Here are three important lessons I’ve learned... ...that young accountants should hear. 1️⃣ You can make a real impact. A common misconception is that accounting is all about the facts and figures. In reality, it’s about people. As an accountant, you bring stability and continuity to your client’s business. You help them address issues, overcome struggles, and experience growth. 2️⃣ Relationships are important. Finances can be a touchy subject. At Ramsay Brown we take the time to build a relationship of trust with our clients. It’s not enough to read about them through financial reports. You need to regularly touch base with them. Seeing them up close will help you develop solutions tailored to their actual needs (not what you think they might need). 3️⃣ Your clients don’t operate in isolation. They’re affected by the issues faced by their wider sector. That’s why it’s critical you join an organisation that regularly discusses and is open about their key industry issues. Not only will this give you access to the latest industry information and valuable peer support, but more importantly, it brings you into their world. And that allows you to provide the best service you possibly can. #RamsayBrown #accounting #GPs

What impact can six months of uncertainty have? The answer is plenty. The Government is withholding comment on any additional support practices may receive until talks on the 2025/26 GP contract have concluded. This means that for the next few months, GPs won't have clarity on the impact of the Autumn Budget. As a result, they're being forced to consider extreme measures, such as: ↪️ Delaying pay rises to maintain financial stability. ↪️ Replacing permanent staff with ad-hoc locums. ↪️ Lowering costs by reducing services. ↪️ Opting out of the pension scheme. But, the effect of these measures is not limited to those working in the field. The knock-on impact on patient care could be significant as practice resources are stretched thin.
