Here’s something we don’t talk about enough: Burnout in the medical sector. → Long hours. → Extended overtime. → Heavy administrative loads. → Limited staff and resource availability. → Stress caused by the sector’s uncertain financial future. These are just a few of the very real challenges faced by our GPs on a daily basis. Watch the video below to hear more about the impact of burnout in the medical sector. ⬇️ #RamsayBrown #GPs #burnout

Katie Collin post highlights the critical challenges facing GPs in the UK today. At Ramsay Brown, we recognise the importance of reducing administrative burdens and improving digital infrastructure to support healthcare professionals. By addressing these issues, we can help GPs focus more on patient care and regain the work-life balance they deserve. #Healthcare #GPs #NHS #WorkLifeBalance #MedicalProfessionals #RamsayBrown
Why are more and more GPs looking to leave the UK? The simple answer is balance. In the UK, most GPs are overworked. Some reasons for this include: ➡️ Unreasonable workloads. → Staff shortages. → High admin loads. → A lack of digital infrastructure. → Poor internetwork communication. Ultimately, the time GPs spend navigating these issues leaves them with less time to consult their patients. That is not sustainable. ➡️ Lack of funding. Government spending and tax hikes have left the sector with limited financial resources. Indecision on funding relief means practices can’t plan for their futures. Frustrated with these ever-present challenges, GPs are leaving for healthcare systems where: ↪️ They can dedicate more time to each patient. ↪️ More human, financial and medical resources are available. ↪️ Digital infrastructure and automated processes relieve the administrative burden. In short, they’re looking for balance. If we want to keep our talented GPs, we need to address these challenges head-on. And all before it’s too late. #RamsayBrown #GPs #NHS #medicalpractices

Quite right Katie. How does a practice build, invest, plan when this level of uncertainty exists. In recent years we have even had a Health Secretary supporting the idea of buying back all GP owned premises at a cost of billions. Did he not think that might influence partners buying in/joining practices? The fundamental problem is inept leadership and governmental mistrust of GPs. Don’t they learn? What is clear is that government departments were unprepared for Rachel Reeves increase in NIC. So sort it out for goodness sake! L
What impact can six months of uncertainty have? The answer is plenty. The Government is withholding comment on any additional support practices may receive until talks on the 2025/26 GP contract have concluded. This means that for the next few months, GPs won't have clarity on the impact of the Autumn Budget. As a result, they're being forced to consider extreme measures, such as: ↪️ Delaying pay rises to maintain financial stability. ↪️ Replacing permanent staff with ad-hoc locums. ↪️ Lowering costs by reducing services. ↪️ Opting out of the pension scheme. But, the effect of these measures is not limited to those working in the field. The knock-on impact on patient care could be significant as practice resources are stretched thin. A big thank you to nick bostock and GPonline for sharing more of my thoughts on the unprecedented challenges GPs are currently facing. You can read them in full below:

Here are three important lessons I’ve learned... ...that young accountants should hear. 1️⃣ You can make a real impact. A common misconception is that accounting is all about the facts and figures. In reality, it’s about people. As an accountant, you bring stability and continuity to your client’s business. You help them address issues, overcome struggles, and experience growth. 2️⃣ Relationships are important. Finances can be a touchy subject. At Ramsay Brown we take the time to build a relationship of trust with our clients. It’s not enough to read about them through financial reports. You need to regularly touch base with them. Seeing them up close will help you develop solutions tailored to their actual needs (not what you think they might need). 3️⃣ Your clients don’t operate in isolation. They’re affected by the issues faced by their wider sector. That’s why it’s critical you join an organisation that regularly discusses and is open about their key industry issues. Not only will this give you access to the latest industry information and valuable peer support, but more importantly, it brings you into their world. And that allows you to provide the best service you possibly can. #RamsayBrown #accounting #GPs

How can accountancy firms effectively support GPs? I’ll let you in on my personal philosophy… ➡️ You need to understand your client. At Ramsay Brown we know that one point of contact isn’t enough. To find the solutions they need, you really have to know your clients inside and out. That’s why I always start with three simple questions: ➡️ What are their objectives? ➡️ What do they need to accomplish them? ➡️ What issues are standing in their way? Simple questions like these have a major benefit: They paint a clear picture of each of our client’s unique situations and issues. Asking them puts us in the best position to help. #RamsayBrown #GPs #accounting

Data flow is a big issue for GP practices. And digitisation is the best way to address this. Currently, data flow issues result in two major problems: 1️⃣ GPs have to devote more time to rewriting and reissuing paperwork between different healthcare organisations. 2️⃣ Patients don’t get seen due to restricted clinical time. At the end of the day, information has to be allowed to flow freely (and securely) between different health organisations. So how can practices do this? → Introduce a range of approved apps to provide ongoing patient support. → Allow patients to securely access their digital records. → Introduce automated processes that lighten the administrative load. → Implement secure systems that integrate NHS and non-NHS networks, allowing medical practitioners access to complete patient records. How else could digital tools be used to transform our GP practices? Let me know in the comments below! ⬇️ #RamsayBrown #NHS #GPs #digitaltransformation
