Hello Network, Last week Tuesday, I had the pleasure of being a panellist on the first Reaching Higher Charity x CSCP Conference on Contextual Safeguarding. It was a great honour to share some of my incredible stories and experiences within the youth charity organisation. A special mention to everyone who featured on the panel Temora S. , Kyra and Kamani who also spoke on the positive impact that Reaching Higher Charity has had on them. Another special mention to Alecia Blackford, Jordan Ignatius and Karlys Thompson MBACP for providing me and the other panelist’s with this insightful experience.

The power of the collective ✊🏾💫 Yesterday marked a groundbreaking moment for the borough of Croydon as we hosted its first-ever Contextual Youth Work and Safeguarding Conference of its kind. What a day it was! The room was alive with energy, filled with over 100 dedicated professionals representing Criminal Justice & Law Enforcement, Health, Education, the Voluntary Sector, Funders, Community Groups, Central Governments, Local Council, and Faith Groups. Together, we demonstrated the power and potential of our borough to lead the way in safeguarding and championing young people. From the high-quality content shared by our phenomenal speakers to the invaluable contributions from our youth facilitators and each attendee, the day was a masterclass in collaboration, reflection, and shared purpose. The conversations we started today have the potential to ripple far beyond this room, shaping practice and policy in meaningful ways. This pilot was just the beginning - we recognise that there is still much work to do but we must start somewhere. The feedback was clear: we need to broaden the room and further the conversation. Many professionals shared how their wider teams would benefit immensely from being part of a conference like this. And I couldn’t agree more. Together, we can build something even greater - working together to achieve more for the young people we serve across Croydon. I want to thank all of our speakers & facilitators who made the day what it was along with incredible team at Reaching Higher Charity for their relentless commitment and hard work in ensuring today was such a success. Your dedication to safeguarding young people is unmatched, and I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved together. Advocating for Children & Young People Yesterday, Reaching Higher Charity and the Croydon Safeguarding Children’s Partnership (CSCP) hosted a Contextual Safeguarding Conference an incredible day of learning and collaboration. First, I want to celebrate Karlys Thompson MBACP from Reaching Higher and Natasha from CSCP, whose leadership made this remarkable event possible. I was honoured to lead the Youth in Communities panel. I had the privilege of preparing with the amazing young leaders who spoke Temora S., Kamani, Kyra, and Pharrell. Their contributions were nothing short of phenomenal and a testament to the brilliance of young voices shaping our community. The day was also packed with inspiring speakers who shared invaluable insights. I want to thank everyone who dedicated their time and expertise to make the day so impactful. Following the conference, I headed to the Houses of Parliament for an in-person discussion with local MPs and the London's Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) about the Impact of a Community-Led Preventative Approach to Tackling Violence. It was a powerful day of advocating for children and young people. While these topics are far from light, and I ended the day feeling drained, I also left with renewed determination and reflections, including: 👉🏾 The voluntary sector is not waiting we are moving in numbers. 👉🏾 These issues demand immediate attention, strategic thinking, and collaborative action to best serve the young people we support. My final shout out is for Jordan Ignatius for continually championing the team to rise to new challenges. Your belief in us as leaders makes all the difference, and your outstanding leadership and vision inspire us all.

Yesterday the London Borough of Croydon levelled 🆙️ Reaching Higher Charity in partnership with Croydon Safeguarding Children Partnership (CSCP) delivered an amazing conference event on Understanding Contextual Youth Work & Contextual Safeguarding.👌🏾 Who else could gather over 100 professionals across networks, in a room to deliberate, refine and transition professional mindsets on such a nuanced theme, I'll tell you who, Jordan Ignatius and the phenomenal team leadership structure that is #ReachingHigher. Alecia Blackford David N. Karlys Thompson MBACP et al. I listened with rapt attention to the icon that is Clair Graham. I'm weathered, and so hard to impress, but this woman is who I want to be when I grow up. #GirlCrush Clair confirmed to the room the real and present danger to young people and their families if partnerships fail to see the need for collaboration, and that partnership doesn't mean the statutory partner leads and the VCS follows, but rather a professional, genuinely valued, respectful partnering, that centers the child, and not the professional ego. Let me also shout out my statutory colleagues Emma Carter Jess Merlet (My pronouns are she/her) @FionaMartin @CliffHilderly @KeithMakin @DonnaSwirski who despite budgetary cuts and restructures, the cold hard realities of statutory provision in this current climate, yet they continue to hold tight to centering the child and their family in their provision, strategies and delivery. #WeSeeYou #YouAreAppreciated The bar has been raised.
