Big Local Broad Green... where do I even begin? 🤧 Broad Green holds a special place in my heart. Six years ago this community embraced me, and I’ve been proud to give back ever since. This place has been such a growth era where I became the woman I am today navigating life without a traditional family unit and so I did everything I could to ensure that I gave back and served the community that received me with open arms. My time as Chair and being a partner has now come to an end with this project, its been nearly 6 years volunteering and I don't regret it one bit - deciding how to meaningfully spend £1M in the area. It has been incredibly challenging but also deeply rewarding because of all the incredible impact we've made over the years. Plus! Having a Hub in the heart of Croydon is hard work but such a dream and I have seen it first hand serve so many people in need of help, advise, food bank, events etc! Plus we brought out 300+ people to paint a huge mural on London Road! Wild! From building a Library at Legacy Youth Zone, Croydon, to funding impactful work with the likes of Mind of the Student educating over 700+ students on the importance of mental health and Project 4 Youth Empowerment - P4YE creating podcasting spaces, giving young people a space to have their say, to community gardening initiatives and to over 50+ other local projects and initiatives over the years. The next final challenge before we close our chapter as a Big Local is our Pavilion development in partnership with Common Projects on London Road, Croydon (which you see a snippet of in this video). It has been an incredibly bumpy road and we are still very much on that journey and hopefully, London Road will have a Legacy, a safe space for the local community, by the local community. While it’s bittersweet to step away at this pivotal moment in the project; if there is anything that I have learnt is that it's okay to lay your swords down and move on gracefully. The world we live in today is filled with so many challenging characters but through every challenge the mission was clear: put our community and it's people first. A huge shoutout to Crystal Carless and her team for working with us to develop this incredible video which so beautifully encapsulates the project. Also to Kelechi Onyia who recently joined the team, brilliantly leading and Project Managing and also a nod to the incredibly selfless team who preceded her, they were incredible! (Catrina Lynch) Special thanks to Local Trust for supporting us to support Broad Green! Gabriel Davies & Michal Siewniak for being an incredible support and two people who serve so effortlessly within their roles and this sector! There is much hope yet! Queenie, Over & Out ✌ #ProudtoLiveHere
