💬 Today we attended a thought-provoking webinar hosted by Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) and the Gender Equity Curiosity Collective (GECC), exploring the politics and power of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) in the context of gender-equitable housing. 🤔 The session challenged us to reflect on the power MEL holds in shaping narratives about who gets listened to, whose stories are told, and how knowledge can be a tool for both advocacy and exclusion. Some key takeaways: 📌 The Politics of MEL – Evaluation is never neutral. It determines what gets validated, prioritised, and shared. 📌 Feminist Principles in Evaluation – Emphasising the importance of recognising identity intersections and the responsibility that comes with holding knowledge. 📌 The Data Gap – Acknowledging the persistent lack of gender-disaggregated data and how it continues to hinder progress towards gender equality. 📌 New Gender Indicators – HFHI’s latest work on defining gender indicators is something Reall is keen to learn from and incorporate into our own framework. 🌟 As we continue to refine Reall’s MEL framework, we are committed to integrating these insights to ensure data drives real impact. We aim to elevate stories that are not only accurate and timely but truly reflective of lived experiences in Reall homes. A huge thank you to Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) and the Gender Equity Curiosity Collective (GECC) for this enlightening session and for their ongoing dedication to gender equity in housing. #GenderEquity #Greenhomes #MEL #ImpactMeasurement #Gender #Greenhomes Hannah Jayne Robinson (PhD) Natalie Rothwell Allison Burden University of Warwick

🏠 Better housing has a multiplier effect on quality of life: from improved health and wellbeing to better access to workplaces, schools, and essential services. 🇰🇪 In Nairobi, home ownership stands at only 21.3% and the housing market is predominantly rental. 🔍 Partnering with the CAHF | Centre for Affordable Housing Finance in Africa (CAHF) we analysed survey data from Fusion Capital Limited’s rental properties in Nairobi, Kenya, to understand tenants’ views on affordability and the impact of better quality housing. 📊 The surveys looked at household characteristics, income levels, household expenditure, savings culture, and education levels among other key data points. ✍️ Our article co-written by Dr Hannah Jayne Robinson (PhD), Beatrice Mwangi, M.Sc. and Ben Atkinson examines the characteristics of households within these projects and tenants’ perceptions on a range of issues. https://lnkd.in/eUyxtxGZ #GreenHousing #AffordableHousing #Data #EmergingMarkets #Mortgages #HousingFinance #RentalMarket #Renting #Nairobi #Kenya

With data from over 4,000 cities worldwide, including many of those where Reall works, it’s a powerful tool for identifying service gaps and assessing the suitability of housing projects. 💸 At Reall, we seek to ensure that our homes are well connected and equipped with the services they need. But what happens when location and accessibility clash with the cost of land? 🔑 Get an inside look at how this platform can help rethink affordable housing where every minute counts. 👉 Read the full blog now: https://lnkd.in/eAYZ5Wwh #15MinCity #UrbanInnovation #AffordableHousing #SmartCities #DataForGood #SustainableDevelopment #FutureCities #UrbanPlanning Ben Atkinson

👀 Let's look at the numbers. 🏠 The built environment contributes 37% of global greenhouse gas emissions. 🌍 But 70% of the buildings that will be needed in Africa and Asia by 2050 have not been built yet. 🧐 Something doesn't add up. 🌱 We know the challenges of the climate crisis and rapid urbanisation are inextricably linked. Can we solve both simultaneously? 🌟 We think so! Take a look at our Green Affordable Housing Finance platform - GAHF - to see how: https://lnkd.in/eCzzMQV8 🤝 With thanks to The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance for their support! #ClimateFinance #Sustainability #AfricaClimateAction #GreenEconomy #COP30 #GlobalCooperation
