Today’s the day - the #LatAmOutlook is available now! Discover our long-term view on #LatinAmerica’s key trends… 🌎
🚀 At this morning’s #launch conference in #London, we’ve already heard a keynote speech from the #UK’s 🇬🇧 Minister for Latin America and the #Caribbean, The Baroness Chapman of Darlington - the region, she said, is “too big to ignore” for the UK, and highlighted the huge potential to “turn opportunities into reality.”
🌐 Michael Stott (Financial Times) delivered the #Global Outlook for Latin America, putting forward his view that the world is “changing in quite a profound way, and quite a permanent way too” - with Latin America’s challenge being to find its place within that change.
…and Jeremy Browne opened the conference, hailing a “room full of friends” coming together to consider where Latin America finds itself, a quarter-century on from the millennium ⏱️

Madeleine Rhodes' second blog on trademark right protection explores how mark owners should be making genuine use of their trademarks in the course of trade to avoid the marks being revoked, as has happened in two recent high profile UK and EU cases:
https://lnkd.in/eREyhBGh#businesslaw#trademarks#IPlaw
Recent UK and EU trademark cases remind right owners to make use of their trademarks across the breadth of the goods and services covered, or risk the marks being cancelled for non-use. #trademarklaw#IPlaw#trademarks
My recent blog explores this in more detail, including what constitutes genuine "use" of a mark:
London has been heralded as the "best city in the world" for a 10th consecutive year by Resonance in partnership with Ipsos. Its appeal as a top destination for businesses and foreign investors was highlighted.

Madeleine Rhodes' latest blog explores what can be learnt from the landmark Sky v Skykick trademark ruling, where the highest Court in the UK has made it clear that trademarks will be cancelled where they are registered in bad faith, with no genuine use made of the goods and services covered.

The Supreme Court has declared media giant Sky registered trademarks in bad faith and has revoked them.

Recent fines and reprimands remind us that companies must only collect biometric personal data (for example through fingerprint/facial recognition scanners) in compliance with the GDPR and impact assessments must be completed first.

Changes to the laws relating to sexual harassment in the workplace have come into force, obligating employers to take "reasonable steps" to prevent the sexual harassment of their workers by not only other staff members, but third parties too, or face higher compensation payouts.
