Registers of Scotland
Government Administration
Government department responsible for public registers of land, property and other legal documents in Scotland.
About us
We are the government department responsible for public registers of land, property and other legal documents. Our organisation has its roots in seventeenth century Edinburgh when the General Register of Sasines, the world’s oldest national land register, began to record ownership officially for the first time. We now look after 21 public registers, among them the Land Register of Scotland, the Crofting Register, the Scottish Landlord Register and the Register of Community Interests in Land. We are headed by the Keeper of the Registers of Scotland who is accountable to the Scottish Parliament. As a non-ministerial department of the Scottish government, we raise our own funds by charging fees for our services. We rely on our skilled and talented people to move our organisation forward. We employ nearly 1,000 staff, who are passionate about providing an effective service for the people of Scotland, in a range of roles across our Glasgow and Edinburgh offices. It's been just over a year since I made the switch from private to public sector and being honest it was with a bit of trepidation as to what to expect ! But as article below indicates I've been incredibly impressed on so many fronts. Registers of Scotland (RoS) is an organisation with 400+ years of history, but looking at our technology stack and operating models it's as modern as they come and the appetite for change and the pace of delivery is truly refreshing. Yesterdays quarterly 'RoS Sync' event reinforced the progress RoS has made as its moved from the traditional paper model to a fully digital offering and it was great to see the passion in the teams across the business working together to deliver for our customers. 👏🏻 With a digital, data and technical team of 300+ there are a range of opportunities at RoS from designers and product managers through to data scientists, engineers, architects, cyber professionals and everything in between. The last year has been a privilege to work with some incredible teams to deliver for the citizens of Scotland and I look forward to the future as we start to shape our plans and leverage the incredible technical and cultural foundation that RoS has established #continuousimprovement
