In our recent interview with Karla Cervantes Barrón, she mentioned a Southern Partners Fund project in #Vietnam, which is related to material flows in the #packaging industry.
The project is in collaboration with the Institute that belongs to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (ISPONRE) and members of the National Economics University (NEU) in Vietnam. Our work there has been informing Vietnam's #circulareconomy policies. The consultation workshops on the project findings have featured valuable contributions from experts from a range of different organisations.
The project is nearing completion and more workshops are taking place right now. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Tho - Director of the Institute attended, and spoke at the meeting.
Through this seminar, we not only expect to develop a useful tool to measure and monitor the implementation of KTTH/Circular Economy but also contribute to providing practical solutions, helping to reduce waste and negative impact on the environment towards a sustainable packaging industry in Vietnam.
The project has identified that Material Flow Analysis (MFA) is an effective tool to help the decision-making process of policy makers become more scientific and accurate. It allows us to better understand resource flows, detect potential environmental problems, and provide important technical data for decision-making and planning.
However, the reality of implementation in Vietnam has shown that one of the biggest challenges in applying MFA is the problem of #datacollection. Especially, in countries like Vietnam, the availability and quality of data are still limited. This is a factor that can be improved through multi-dimensional cooperation and experience sharing from domestic and foreign stakeholders.
