Employee Engagement – The Bedrock of Outstanding Businesses. What a fabulous cluster session we had yesterday at REL, where we had the privilege of gaining an insight into what the company has done to engage its people, in creating a truly outstanding organisation. We heard how they'd developed their vision, values and ethos to inspire, and learnt about their expertise, improvement methodology, and “Lean Hub” which has helped them build an operation that oozes excellence!! All of which was on show through their passion for what they do. As always, at these cluster sessions, attendees saw practical examples of brilliant ideas to improve the way they work, all with the aim of creating a great and productive place to work. Responsive Engineering Ltd is a first-class business and it was a brilliant place to hold our last Cluster session for 2024. Make UK Regional Manufacturing Awards 2024 - Runner Up in the Developing Future Talent category 🏆 Last night we had the honour of attending the Make UK North East, Yorkshire & Humberside Regional Dinner and Manufacturing Awards at Ramside Hall. We were shortlisted in two categories: ▪️ Developing Future Talent ▪️ Business Growth and Strategy We were proud to walk away with a runner-up award in the ‘Developing Future Talent’ category. In the last year, we have pursued a purposeful strategy to bring enhanced skills and resource to Armstrong Works. Our people-focus has been a strategic priority which we have reflected inside the business with a number of key moves and areas of focus, and outside of the business with a focus on future talent and engagement around STEM subjects. Our newest cohort of apprentices got straight into supporting our commitment to the local community with a design and build task that would test their teamwork and project skills. 🔨 In small teams, the apprentices constructed wooden plant boxes that were donated to a local school in Newcastle for a newly created vegetable garden area in the school’s outdoor space. The quality of the finished products was exceptional, reflecting the dedication and skill of our new colleagues. We were pleased to welcome Andy Start, Chief Executive Officer at Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S), to Armstrong Works last week for discussions with our Senior Leadership Team and UK focused project teams. Building on DE&S' focus on enhanced collaboration with industry, the visit included a tour of Pearson Engineering's product design and manufacturing capabilities, and an update on the programmes we are currently delivering to UK MOD and its strategic partners.
