About us
The Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) is a registered charity (1187984) with an ambitious vision to prevent the unnecessary use of restrictive practices in health and social care and education. The RRN seeks to create a culture that is trauma informed and respects human rights across education, health and social care services so that services are safe, dignified and respect people’s autonomy and wellbeing, and reduce reliance on restrictive practices. As a network of committed organisations and individuals, the RRN achieves this mission by sharing learning, developing quality standards and practical tools to support restraint reduction, and by working across sectors to promote culture change. Joining the network is free and you can join as an individual, as an organisation, or both. Join the Restraint Reduction Network today and demonstrate your commitment to reducing restrictive practices. The Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards are a set of ethical training standards that protect human rights and support the minimisation of restrictive practices. It is now a statutory requirement in England that organisations delivering training on restrictive practices in mental health and learning disability settings must be certified as meeting the RRN Training Standards. Just one week to go until Driving Change Towards a Culture of Care, the Restraint Reduction Network Conference 2024 bit.ly/RRNConf24 Organisational environments are complex systems of people, laws and policies, shaped and sustained by culture. This year’s conference will highlight aspects of positive cultures that support the reduction of restrictive practices. Sharing evidence-based information and tools, the event will promote effective practice, open discussion, and dialogue. Hear from policy and practice leaders, people with lived experience and academics who will stimulate discussion over two days in Newcastle. Implementation of any initiative to reduce restrictive practices is determined by shared ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving. By exploring latest thinking on all forms of restrictive practice within the context of your organisation, you can learn practical ways to navigate systemic barriers that impact people’s lives and can result in institutional forms of oppression. In person tickets have sold out but you can still join us online on 27-28 November for a fantastic two days exploring how organisational cultures define care: bit.ly/RRNConf24
