No child should go hungry at school! A new report highlights that nearly half a million children in poverty are missing out on free school meals due to admin barriers, language difficulties, or social stigma. Nathan Atkinson comments: “At Rethink Food, we fully support automatic enrolment - no child should have to go without a nutritious meal because of paperwork. Ensuring access to food is key to a healthier, more equitable future. We urge policymakers to act NOW to implement these recommendations and support families and schools alike.” Read more here https://lnkd.in/efku2x3K #HealthyPeopleHealthyPlanet #FoodSecurity #NoChildGoesHungry

Last week, Travis spent his half-term volunteering at Rethink Food HQ instead of staying home on the Xbox - and he absolutely smashed it! He rolled up his sleeves, got stuck in, and didn’t complain once. His hard work and positive attitude made a real impact, and we’re so grateful for his support. Travis is now gearing up for the next chapter, pursuing a career as an HGV technician, and we know he’s got a bright future ahead! If you’d like to volunteer and make a difference like Travis, get in touch - we’d love to have you on board! Find out more at https://lnkd.in/eZ6E4J2S #VolunteeringMatters #HealthyPeopleHealthyPlanet
Bit of a personal post but here goes! Love a good selfie! As you know, LC Vehicle Hire support Rethink Food CIC Chris Green A charity close to our hearts… This is my son Travis doing voluntary work within Rethink HQ this week as it’s half term week at college.. Travis will be finishing college in May and entering the next chapter of his life to persue a career as a HGV technician. We are currently going through multiple apprenticeship applications within the dealership background but as it stands, he is still available for an apprenticeship and still has his options open.. , so if you know anywhere that is looking for a HGV apprentice with a can do attitude close Leeds LS12 then please reach out or please feel free to give this post a reshare 👍🏻 #apprenticeship #HGVapprentice #work #mechanic Gillian Smith

The latest Broken Plate report from The Food Foundation highlights the stark reality of food inequality in the UK. With healthier food often priced out of reach and ultra-processed options dominating, families are facing significant barriers to maintaining a nutritious diet. At Rethink Food, we believe that access to healthy food is a right, not a privilege. But accessibility alone isn’t enough - people also need the skills and facilities to turn nutritious ingredients into tasty, appealing meals. As Nathan Atkinson puts it: “Healthy food should be universally accessible and affordable. It is also essential that people have the skills and facilities to use the food to create tasty and appealing meals. High quality food education from a young age is essential in establishing these skills. Early intervention is key.” Through our programmes, we’re working to equip young people with the knowledge and confidence to make healthy choices - because food education is just as vital as food itself. Let’s work together to rethink food and build a healthier, more sustainable future. #HealthyPeopleHealthyPlanet #FoodEducation #RethinkFood #FoodInequality #TheBrokenPlate
