I was delighted to attend this great media event yesterday on behalf of Rothes Glen hosted by Walpole and Helen Brocklebank at The Beaumont Hotel with Dylan Jones , Editor of the Evening Standard - When talking about luxury, Dylan commented, ‘There is a grand swell in many different areas when it comes to luxury brands’ and a brand takes ‘an age to build, 5 seconds to ruin’, ‘sincerity, not style, is the most important thing’ - when asked what the best management style is, he replied ‘to win people’s trust and respect and to very quietly explain what you want and let the team get on with it’. He emphasised the importance of social media and declared that he has never been embarrassed about not knowing stuff; you can’t know about everything. It was interesting to hear, too, that a personal email is far more effective than a press release, which he would prefer not to receive.
