A front entrance door needs to comply with an array of legislation for effective protection against fire, smoke, intruders, and even weathering. This video clip shows just one of the processes involved in testing a front entrance door for security protection. PAS24:2022 is the standard that determines effective intruder protection to meet approved Doc Q. In our recent webinar, we cover the essential qualifications of a fire door, and more. The challenge of remaining compliant: Door opening vs closing forces. Together, BS8300 and Doc M set out the legal requirements for a fire door’s opening forces — ensuring accessibility for all users. The opposing factor for sufficient closing forces is set out in EN 1154. It’s important that both pieces of legislation are met, despite their opposing requirements. This can be tricky to achieve in certain scenarios where excessive air pressures are at play. The good news is, Rutland offers a range of power-adjustable door closers which allow the door closer’s power to be increased, and its closing speed to be decreased. Our technical team has a great deal of experience achieving compliantly installed fire doors. If you’re at all in doubt, please reach out! support@rutlanduk.co.uk #legislation #compliance #firedoors

Spot the difference! 🔥 As part of a live test, these two doorsets have been subjected to more than 30 minutes of extreme heat and fire. This video highlights the importance of keeping a fire door shut — the door should create a reliable barrier against smoke and fire long enough for building occupants to escape in a fire emergency. Despite witnessing countless fire tests each year, we’re always stunned by the contrast between each side of the door leaf during the reveal. These doors remain in good condition after the test, more than satisfying the required legislation for an FD30 fire door. #testing #firedoor #firesafety

Following the Autumn Budget 2024 announcement regarding remedial cladding, the government has reiterated its commitment to allocating funds for the rebuilding of 500 schools in the “greatest need”. £1.4 billion will be invested in rebuilding and a further £2.1 billion will be set aside to “improve school maintenance”. Responding to the statement, Mark Hardingham, Chair of the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) said: “We welcome the increase in funding for the school rebuilding programme and urge that fire safety is embedded into any plans to improve the school estate to secure the continued learning of children and afford greater protection to these vital community assets.” Industry reaction to the Autumn Budget has been mixed, with some concerns raised over the need to address the “root causes of poor fire safety standards” and the need for “additional training and regulatory oversight to ensure long-term fire safety improvements”.
