Proud to stand with every child.

About us

Save the Children exists to help every child reach their full potential. In more than 100 countries including the UK, we help children stay safe, healthy and keep learning. We lead the way on tackling big problems like pneumonia, hunger and protecting children in war, while making sure each child’s unique needs are cared for. We find new ways to reach children who need us most, no matter where they’re growing up. For a century, we’ve stood up for children and made sure their voices are heard. We wrote the treaty that sets out the rights of every child, and we’ve been upholding them every day since. We know we can’t do this alone. Together with children, supporters and partners, we work to help every child become who they want to be.

  • Martunis was just seven years old when the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami devastated Indonesia, claiming over 167,000 lives. Miraculously, he survived 21 days alone in a mangrove swamp, drinking rainwater and scavenging for food. Found by reporters on a beach, Martunis received lifesaving medical care from Save the Children. We also helped reunite him with his father, who had thought he was lost forever. ✨ “God gave me life, opportunity, and a second life. I want everyone to be inspired by my story.” – Martunis This is a remarkable tale of survival, resilience, and hope that continues to move and inspire people worldwide. • We have been supporting pregnant women living in climate-affected communities in Bangladesh providing healthcare services by boat. 🛥️ Bangladesh is on the front line of the climate crisis. 38.3 million children in Bangladesh have already experienced extreme heatwaves so far in 2024, while Cyclone Remal killed 16 people and destroyed the homes of over 270,000 children. The estimated five million people live along riverbank areas known as char are particularly vulnerable to drought and flooding, leaving many mothers cut off or facing difficult journeys to see a midwife. Save the Children has been working with local partners in trying to reduce the number of maternal and newborn deaths by operating a medical boat called ‘Mamotar Tori’ or ‘The Boat of Affection’ that brings midwives to villages when they are only accessible by water or in a medical emergency. The boat is equipped with a bed, oxygen, emergency supplies and can be used to provide emergency transport to hospital. Globally, 24 million mothers will give birth without a midwife, nurse or doctor this year and 28 million will give birth outside a health facility, which puts newborns and their mothers in danger. We believe every mother and every baby should have access to a safe, supported birth and no one should have to give birth alone. 👶❤️

  • Celebrating our phenomenal 2024 fundraisers: Day 3, 5-year-old Olivia's coffee morning ☕️ At just 5-years-old, Olivia put on a coffee morning to raise funds for Save the Children back in March. Her parents were speaking about other children and said that not everyone was as fortunate as she was, and Olivia was really taken aback. She kept telling her parents that she wanted to do something to help, like build a house or a school. They decided on a coffee morning where Olivia and her mother made a bunch of different cakes and invited family and friends to come over. We're so incredibly grateful for your support and for raising over £500, Olivia 🌟

  • Celebrating our phenomenal 2024 fundraisers: Day 2, Lenny's marathon trio 🏃 Lenny has now completed his immense fundraising challenge to run 3 marathons in 3 cities (Berlin, Dublin and Valencia) over 3 months. Despite this level of physical endurance taking its toll by the third and final race, Lenny kept pushing with the thought of “kids around the UK and further a field that have had that innocent smile wiped from their faces for one reason or another” in his mind. So far, Lenny has raised a wonderful £2,115 and counting. This, alongside the fundraising he did for the Tokyo marathon in March, takes his fundraising total for 2024 alone to over £5,304! That’s a wrap on Lenny’s incredible fundraising for this year, until next time 🙌

  • British Doctors have been giving paediatric emergency medical training in Egypt to help first responders save the lives of children wounded in Gaza. Following support from Community Jameel, Save the Children has facilitated the delivery of training by paediatric specialists to paramedics from the Ministry of Health in Egypt and the Egyptian Red Crescent in Cairo. Since the beginning of the war in Gaza, Save the Children - Egypt CO هيئة إنقاذ الطفولة، برنامج مصر, in partnership with Community Jameel, has worked with the Ministry of Health in Egypt to support children and their families affected by the crisis. Save the Children has distributed equipment and supplies to hospitals, supported emergency medical training sessions with the Egyptian Ambulance Authority and partnered with the Centre for Paediatric Blast Injury Studies at Imperial College to improve the treatment and understanding of child blast injuries.

  • Celebrating our phenomenal 2024 fundraisers: Day 1, Aev's 24-hour drumathon 🥁 16-year-old Aev completed a full day and night of drumming back in July, only taking 5-minute breaks once an hour. She raised an astonishing £7,630 plus Gift Aid for Save the Children's Gaza Emergency Appeal – quickly surpassing her original target of £2,400 (£100 an hour). Aev's drumming heroes include Karen Carpenter, Cindy Blackman, and John Bonham. She first started drumming aged six and said she found it helped with her dyspraxia, which affects movement and coordination. Here she is drumming her final beats of the 24 hours 🙌 We're honestly still blown away by this amazing feat, Aev. On behalf of children in Gaza, THANK YOU ❤️
