Scaleups exist across the country and across all sectors. Increasing the number of firms reaching scale has the potential to deliver hundreds and thousands of additional jobs and billions to the local economy and drive forward productivity in every community. Evidence shows these businesses are also highly productive and international. The UK needs to focus determinedly on how it ‘leans in’ to support its growing firms to scale.
We aim to advance understanding of how to scale up a business, and how to build the most effective environment in which scaleups can flourish. We spread best practice, providing opportunities for scaleup companies across industry sectors and regions to meet and share ideas. We undertake research, thought leadership and targeted projects with partners.
We work with policy makers to identify opportunities that will support scaleup businesses. We share our methodology and ideas to create resources that will help aspiring scaleup businesses. We keep scaleups and their issues at the top of the UK political and business agenda.
The UK’s future economic prosperity and social well-being are critically dependent upon our being a world- leading environment in which companies thrive after they have been started, enabling opportunity for reach and scale and contributing positive impact for generations to come. Making the UK a fertile ground for developing such businesses across localities, industries and supply chains is fundamental to achieving both immediate and long term UK economic value.

Thank you to everyone who joined us today for the 10th Anniversary of the original 2014 ScaleUp Report which led to the creation of the ScaleUp Institute by the private sector. Speaking to a packed room at the Tate Modern, Hannah Prevett hosted a variety of panel discussions with representatives from the wider scaleup ecosystem. To start the day, Irene Graham OBE, CEO, ScaleUp Institute shared the Annual State of the Decade report highlighting the significant bounce back from the pandemic slowdown, with 34,180 scaleups now in the UK, up by 27% from 2013. The day continued with a video speech from the Chancellor Rt Hon Rachel Reeves, and representatives from both scaleup businesses and the wider ecosystem who took to the stage to discuss the innovation, internationalisation and talent of our scaleup business opportunities and the future #scaleup landscape. As Margaret Rice-Jones, Chair, ScaleUp Institute said in her final words, the atmosphere in the room was full of aspiration, vibrancy and growth. Thank you to everyone who joined us today for the next in our series of ScaleUp Britain Summits, with the London Stock Exchange, at the Bristol Tech Festival on Scale Day. In front of a packed room the day began with a welcome by Nick Sturge MBE, Chair, techSPARK uk, followed by Irene Graham OBE CEO ScaleUp Institute setting the South West ScaleUp Scene. Marcus Stuttard, Head of AIM and Primary Markets, London Stock Exchange shared insights on the latest developments in capital markets; listing rules and the new platforms of PISCES and FLOWW. After setting the scene the summit then welcomed to the stage several panel discussions and Q&As from both ScaleUp businesses from the region and those involved in supporting the scaleup ecosystem as well as representatives from local Universities and Colleges.
