Our first goal as a school is to support diversity, inclusion and new entrants in to agriculture. Last year, we were delighted to work with Navaratnam Partheeban OBE and colleagues from McDonald's AHDB - Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board and Frank Parkinson Agricultural Trust to deliver an online programme that supports diversity on farm. We were delighted to round out 2024 with our final Future Farmer Conference of the year at Harper Adams University last week. Our Future Farmers were treated to inspirational talks and workshops and a tour of the Harper Future Farm as they completed the first phase of the programme, Sustainability, before beginning the next phase, Leadership and Management. We were also delighted to welcome Sophie Throup, Tim Parton and Claire Mackenzie for a fascinating discussion chaired by David Farley (PMIAgrM) ahead of the film’s screening. The School of Sustainable Food & Farming was delighted to welcome our guests to a truly cross-supply chain event at the House of Lords, yesterday. Two years ago we met in the same place to launch the Application of Science report, recommending, among other things, the requirement for connectivity of farm networks across the UK. It was the genesis for the establishment of the Sustainable Farm Networks, which now has 23 partners including (but not limited to) Harper Adams University, Landex, Morrisons, McDonald's and LEAF. "The mission is to build a socially and environmentally resilient and regenerative food system in a net zero landscape, connecting diverse demonstration farm networks across the UK to share experiences, findings and best practice." We're delighted to bring you fascinating insights from Emily Gascoigne (MA VetMB Dip.ECSRHM PGCertVetEd FHEA MRCVS) of Synergy Farm Health Ltd. RCVS and European Recognised Specialist in Sheep Health, Emily graduated in 2012 and has worked at Synergy throughout her career. Whilst enthusiastic about all aspects of farm animal practice, Emily has a special interest is sheep and goat production, with particular emphasis on flock health planning, reducing production losses and infectious disease control.
