#HappyThanksgiving to our friends across the Atlantic! 🇺🇸 We're raising a dram in thanks to the great relationship between our two whisk(e)y industries. #DidYouKnow between $164m and $390m in casks are traded to Scotland every year, and in return, £978M in Scotch was exported to the 🇺🇸 in 2023? 🥃

About us
The Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) is the trade body for the Scotch Whisky industry. Its role is to advance the global interests and profile of Scotch Whisky, our members and of the industry as a whole. SWA membership is for companies which are distillers, bottlers, brand owners or brokers of Scotch Whisky. We see the Scotch whisky industry as a significant Scottish and British economic and cultural asset that boosts growth and jobs, that strongly supports the communities with which we work, and that combines the very best of the traditional and the modern. By building strong relationships with all levels of government and opinion-formers and by making a visible impact on public debate we will: • Be a trusted voice in the debate on alcohol and society • Support a competitive, sustainable and fairly taxed industry • Safeguard the Scotch Whisky category • Ensure fair access to all markets worldwide. The SWA can trace its origins back to October 1912. The original organisation, the Wine & Spirit Brand Association changed its name to the Whisky Association in 1917 which in turn became the SWA in 1940.

Good to meet Ian Murray today to reiterate industry disappointment over HM Treasury decision to increase tax discrimination of #ScotchWhisky, and how we advance our shared priorities over this Parliament - backing the industry at home to succeed overseas #SupportScotch 🏴🥃

"From Net Zero to our international trade footprint, we want people to understand the priorities of the #ScotchWhisky industry." Hear from SWA Director of Strategy & Communications Graeme Littlejohn on what the team delivers for the industry 🥃 Looking to learn more about the teams behind the SWA? 👉 https://lnkd.in/eYnNjevK

The Prime Minister Keir Starmer promised to “back Scotch producers to the hilt” The public agree the decision to increase duty on #ScotchWhisky - and deepen the tax discrimination of spirits - in the HM Treasury Budget broke that promise. We continue to call on the UK government to take action to #SupportScotch

SWA Chief Executive Mark Kent CMG, Deputy Director of Industry Sustainability Peter Clark and Head of Engagement Susanne Cameron-Nielsen, MCIPR met with Cabinet Secretary for Transport Fiona Hyslop today for a helpful discussion of #ScotchWhisky industry's experiences with ferry capacity constraints on Islay, Jura and Arran, plans for Scotland's trunk road network, and future-proofing our strategically important infrastructure 🛣️ ⛴️

"So much for backing Scotland - which produces 70% of UK spirits - and setting an example to be followed in our export markets. This is more than a broken promise, to many it will smack of a betrayal. Scotland’s national drink, and the associated investment and jobs, has been actively undermined and discriminated against." 📰 Mark Kent CMG writes in today's The Scotsman, in response to the excise duty rise and increased discrimination of #ScotchWhisky and spirits in on-trade in yesterday's Budget. https://lnkd.in/eHQcq34G

Today's HM Treasury Budget increased duty on #ScotchWhisky, increased the tax discrimination on Scotland's national drink, and broke the Prime Minister’s commitment to ‘back Scotch producers to the hilt.’ Our full reaction from Chief Executive Mark Kent CMG ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eBZfXK6r

"The facts speak for themselves – when the tax levels are stable or cut, the sector grows, the number of jobs increases, and the Treasury takes more money in receipts." Andrew Bowie calls the 10.1% duty rise on #ScotchWhisky a "misstep" and urges Rt Hon Rachel Reeves to "learn from the lessons of the past" in tomorrow's HM Treasury Budget 👇
Andrew Bowie: The Conservative government was wrong to hike tax on Scotch. Labour shouldn't either | Conservative Home

Today’s #SpiritsSpotlight shines on the Scotch Whisky Association, the guardian of Scotland’s most iconic spirit. From advocating for the industry globally to championing sustainability and responsible consumption, the SWA ensures that #ScotchWhisky not only thrives but also honors its rich heritage. Earlier this year, they released an Economic Impact report, demonstrating the measurable impact that Scotch has on the UK economy, from production to people. https://lnkd.in/eEb2mNsk Raise a glass to the craftsmanship, culture, and dedication behind every bottle! 🥃 #SWA #Sustainability #Heritage #Scotland #WhiskyIndustry #CheersToScotch
