Preserving history, designing the future: The Edinburgh Futures Institute The award winning transformation of Edinburgh's Old Royal Infirmary into the Edinburgh Futures Institute is a testament to the power of innovation and collaboration. Led by Bennetts Associates and Balfour Beatty plc, this multi-million pound refurbishment has breathed new life into a 19th-century landmark, creating a cutting-edge space for interdisciplinary learning and innovation. At DorSuite, we were proud to partner with the project team to deliver bespoke door solutions that met the complex fire, aesthetic, and acoustic requirements of this ambitious undertaking. Our oversized doors, heritage panelled designs, and acoustic solutions seamlessly blend modern functionality with the building's historic charm. 🌟 Transforming Spaces, Building Communities 🌟 The MacMillan Hub in Edinburgh's Pennywell development is more than a building—it’s a vibrant space bringing people together through learning, creativity, and connection. A project by Richard Murphy Architects LTD and Robertson Group, the Hub integrates diverse spaces: a library, early years centre, arts building, and even social housing. But designing for such varied needs came with its challenges. How did we contribute? At DorSuite, we worked closely with the team to deliver bespoke doorsets tailored to each area: ✔️ Durable laminate-faced doors for high-traffic areas. ✔️ Natural light-enhancing glazed doors with oak bolection beading. ✔️ Concealed oak lippings for a sleek, modern finish. The result? Scottish whisky heritage meets modern craftsmanship at the restored Rosebank Distillery... and DorSuite was proud to be the preferred supplier of performance doors for this award winning project. In collaboration with ISG and MLA, our team delivered 83 bespoke doorsets, balancing tradition with modern fire and safety standards. From Ash-Veneered Lacquered to Armolam Laminate finishes, each door was tailored to complement the distillery's historic charm. 🚪 Shaping the Future of Education at Montgomerie Park Primary 🚪 When jmarchitects and Robertson Group set out to build North Ayrshire’s first Passivhaus school, DorSuite was trusted to deliver bespoke solutions for a modern, energy-efficient design. The Challenge: 342 pupils, 12 classrooms, and a need for doors that seamlessly fit both the functional and aesthetic demands of the new school. Our Solution: DorSuite supplied 78 oak-laminated doorsets, including 36 with Safehinge for added safety. From custom sliding doors to WC breakout doors, all were crafted to meet the project’s exact specifications. Manufactured at our factory in Wales, our doors provided the perfect blend of durability and design. The Result: Montgomerie Park Primary is now a standout in sustainable educational design, and we’re proud to have played a part in its success.
