Scotland's First Student Parasport Festival It's Scottish Disability Sport Week and we're starting by reflecting on our Parasport Festival, held last month at University of Strathclyde. Led by Eilidh Gibson and supported by our Glasgow member institutions, this was a first of its kind event; designed to give students a first taste of disability sport, supported by qualified coaches. Thanks to all those who made the event a success, including our Scottish Governing Body partners basketballscotland, Paddle Scotland, Scottish Curling and Table Tennis Scotland. With some brilliant feedback, we hope to be able to run another of these festivals again soon! #disabilitysport #inclusion #studentsport

How are Scotland doing? 🏴 The Student Active Wellbeing Survey with British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) is in full swing and so far, over 8% of the survey's 3,200 participants are from Scottish institutions. But we can do better! Our last Scottish-specific survey had over 5,000 responses so the potential is there. So, we're calling on our members to grow their response rate by Festive Gathering next Wednesday. Why not try and: - Make it personable with institution-specific imagery and recognisable faces - Be original and experiment with fun, eye-catching content - Share the poster in every digital and physical space you have available - Target students directly, whether in lectures, after fitness classes, or in dining areas Together we can punch above our weight and make the survey a success in Scotland! Introducing Coach Like a Girl Yesterday saw the launch of our new Women & Girls Coaching Project, in collaboration with Scottish Cycling and Scottish Rowing. After an unbelievable response to the initial call for applications, we've welcomed 33 students from 14 sports to be part of the first ever cohort. As part of the session hosted by University of Edinburgh Sport, the new group were invited to come up with a new name for the project; agreeing on Coach Like a Girl. Stay tuned for some new branding - set to be revealed at the group's next meeting in January. £140k (and counting) for Movember ❗ The response from Scottish universities and colleges to this year's Movember campaign has been incredible. With over a week to go, over £140,000 has been raised by Scottish institutions! Leading by example is our SS Football Chair Aonghus Sellar. Alongside coordinating the efforts of our football clubs (with a total of £12,000), Aonghus has been hiking the Edinburgh 7 Hills route every Sunday in November. The 30km route takes 7-8 hours to complete and at 1600m of elevation is more than the height of Ben Nevis! Aognhus has already smashed his initial fundraising goal and is storming towards the £1,000 mark. As we approach the final week, get behind your institution's fundraising efforts as we aim to make this a record-breaking year for Movember! #movember #fundraising #studentsport

A winning start 🥇 It's a goal of ours to have every university and college in Scotland signed up as a SSS member. We took a step closer to that last month as Dundee and Angus College joined the Network as our latest new signing. It turns out they've made quite the mark as in their SSS competitive debut, D&G's Boccia team delivered an unbelievable comeback performance to win in overtime against University of Stirling in the final. We'll have more from our record-breaking Boccia Festival as part of Scottish Disability Sport Week next week, but for now welcome to the party Dundee & Angus! #disabilitysport #boccia #scottishsport

The Student Active Wellbeing Survey is here! This important event - in partnership with British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) - is one of the best opportunities for us to collect meaningful data which can shape the future of student sport and active wellbeing. We're calling on every institution in Scotland to help share the survey to their students. Crucially, we want to hear from those not currently engaged in sport as well as the active student population. You can find all the details you need, and resources to help share the survey, on our website below: https://lnkd.in/dhqrNsq9 #scottishsport #survey #activewellbeing
