Introducing the Primary Separation Plant, a landmark on the Sellafield site as the first industrial-scale facility in Britain, dedicated to the separation of plutonium from used uranium fuel rods. This groundbreaking plant started operations in February 1952 and ran until 1964, when a new separation facility took over. From 1969 to 1973 a 'head end' unit was integrated into the plant, which allowed reprocessing of oxide fuel - experience which was later invaluable in designing the Thorp plant. Did you work here back in the day? We'd love to hear your memories, comment down below. ⬇️ Can you spot the difference between this old photo and what we see today? 🔎 Hint: it once stood an impressive 61 metres tall! #SellafieldHistory 📷 Image of the Primary Separation Plant, circa 1963. #throwback #throwbackthursday #sellafield #nuclear #archives #reprocessing #NuclearEngineering #IndustrialHeritage #HistoricalLandmark #UKNuclearIndustry #EngineeringLegacy

A different angle for this week's #photofriday 😀 Nic, one of our photographers took this great shot. “I took this photo within the Residue Export Facility last week, I struggled to get this shot as I was looking down through a mesh railing but I really like the angle”.

Wishing everyone shortlisted at tonight’s In-Cumbria Business Awards the very best of luck.🤞 A special ‘good luck’ has to go to our very own CEO, Euan Hutton, who has been shortlisted for Business Person of the Year. 🎊 He’s in great company alongside Rachael Ball from Lake District Estates and Mark Telford from Forth Engineering – but we can’t help but be a little bit biased. #EuanForTheWin #sellafield #sellafieldLtd #awards #InCumbria in-cumbria #cumbria

Who doesn't love a snowy scene this time of year!❄️ This week, we’re taking a trip down memory lane to February 199?, when we faced the worst snowfall in over 20 years! It was a time when Whitehaven was nearly cut off from the rest of Cumbria, leaving many of us stuck on the Sellafield site. Do you remember being stuck on site or trying to get there? What year was it? We’d love to hear your stories! 💁♀️Scenes like this are always a reminder that it's important to be prepared for any situation, especially in winter! - #keepsafe #beprepared #throwback #throwbackthursday #nuclear #sellafieldLtd #sellafield #archives #Cumbria #SnowyScenes #EmergencyPreparedness #NuclearSafety #CommunitySupport #SafetyFirst #LocalHistory
