Life. At Severn Trent. Our people are what makes us and caring for our wonderful water is at the heart of what we do.
About us
Water is wonderful. Without it we’d be lost. With it, everything’s possible. For every toothbrush, for every loo flushed. For the hot showers, the cool drinks, the cups of tea. But it’s not just at the heart of our homes. It’s at the heart of everything; our schools, our businesses, our hospitals. Saving lives, helping communities thrive. We’re Severn Trent, a diverse and amazing group of people who want to keep it that way. We bring you clean water and we take it away safely too. But it’s not just what we do. It’s how we do it: not just talking, but going over and above. Stepping up and rolling our sleeves up. It’s because we care. Not only about our water but our corner of the country. And we care for our amazing people who make all this possible. Don’t just take our word for it; we’re a Glassdoor Top 50 Company – one of the best employers in the UK right now. At Severn Trent, we do more, because we care.

Welcoming Beavers to Shropshire – let’s give them the best start! It's now been a week since beavers arrived at the Old River Bed as part of a vital conservation effort to restore wetland ecosystems. These ecosystem engineers play a crucial role in creating healthier landscapes, improving biodiversity, and mitigating flooding. To help them settle in, we’re asking everyone to follow the Beaver Trust’s Beaver Code: ✅ Give them space—observe from a respectful distance ✅ Keep noise levels low to avoid disturbance ✅ Let nature take its course By respecting their habitat, we’re ensuring that these keystone species can thrive and bring lasting benefits to our environment. 🌿 Let’s work together to support this incredible reintroduction and champion the power of nature-based solutions! In this months CIWEM (The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management) “The Environmental” magazine I make the case that smart water meters in England, will help avoid future water deficits and boost customer engagement. The article contains insights from CCW’s CEO Mike Keil, Anglian Water Services’s Doug Spencer and Artesia Consulting Limited’s Dene Marshallsay and Joseph Cahill. Over the next five years, around 10 million smart meter will be installed in England. Smart meters enable early detection of leaks on customers internal and external pipework and fittings. Severn Trent over the past few years have installed over 300,000 smart meter enabling their customers to save 4 million litres. By 2030 Severn Trent will have installed over 1 million smart meters, enabling even greater water saving. These are exciting times in the water industry and the growth of smart metering will enable customers to be more informed of their water usage and more empowered to manage it. #CIWEM #smartmeter #watermanagement

Environmental Practitioner degree apprentice Kiera,18, has always held an interest in environmental science and the leap straight from sixth form into her apprenticeship programme. She says, “There aren’t many companies that offered the [Environmental Practitioner] role, so Severn Trent really stood out for me and I knew the company had a good reputation and would really help me make my first step into the world of work. The opportunity to do university study and earn a degree, while working full time and getting key experience in the field was really the best of both worlds.” With great team support and structured development plans, Keira is balancing work and university life seamlessly. She offers the following advice to those thinking of applying for apprenticeship programmes: “It’s also important to have developed your soft skills, so getting used to Microsoft Office, knowing some tricks with Excel and things like that are really helpful. I’d say learn a little bit about AI, as more and more businesses are bringing that into their everyday work.” Find out more and apply for apprenticeship programmes here at Severn Trent: http://ms.spr.ly/6048UqOG6

Meet one of our rising stars, Spencer, who's recently won Severn Trent’s Apprentice of the Year title 🎉. Just one year into his degree apprenticeship, Spencer has hit the ground running since he started his apprenticeship in August 2023. He is part of the Biodiversity and Ecology team, where he works on tasks ranging from badger checks to tree surveys. His passion for the environment started young, and now he's making a significant impact. And why did he apply for the apprenticeship at Severn Trent? “I was only really looking to go down the traditional university route as I thought that was the only option available to me. That was until I saw this apprenticeship scheme being offered by Severn Trent and knew that was the avenue I wanted to go down, so I’m really lucky to get where I am today.” Looking ahead, he is eager to explore new environmental projects and says: “Each year will be different, which is great because I get to discover different sides of the business and explore things that may be slightly out of my comfort zone. The great thing about my apprenticeship here is that I work with teams linked to the modules I’m studying at university - so I can put my learning into practice.” Find out more about our apprentice opportunities and apply here: http://ms.spr.ly/6046UqnYu #NationalApprenticeshipWeek #Apprenticeships #Apprenticeships2025

After 22 years as a postman, Antony, 44, embarked on a new journey in September 2023 as an Apprentice Assistant Water Network Technician at Severn Trent. Not an easy decision to make, Antony decided he wanted something more from his job: “I’m obviously a slightly more mature apprentice, but that doesn’t mean I’m not as hungry... I knew a few others that [had worked at Severn Trent] and had nothing but good things to say about the company. I knew how good the training was here and how the company looked to progress their apprentices through the business, it was the perfect fit.” He says training at the purpose-built £10 million training facility, The Academy, has been instrumental in his transition to a new role and sector: “The Academy has helped me and I’ve spent a lot of time there over my apprenticeship, I’ve seen firsthand how the business works, our wider impact and how the business operates as a whole.” Find out more about our range of apprenticeship programmes here: http://ms.spr.ly/6043Uqn5D #NationalApprenticeshipWeek #Apprenticeships #Apprenticeships2025
