25 years ago today, Sheffield Eagles played our first game following the rebirth of the club. After the proposed Huddersfield-Sheffield merger in 1999, Rugby League in South Yorkshire looked bleak, but Mark Aston led a race to get a new Sheffield Eagles club up and running in time to start the new season with the deadline only weeks away. The club’s application was initially knocked back but, in the “replay”, Eagles were admitted to the league and began their new existence at Chorley on 28th December 1999. To mark this occasion, click below to see the tries from that day, as we ran out 20-33 winners against Lancashire Lynx Tries from Jonny Bruce, Ian Brown, John Strange, Gavin Brown, Chris Robinson and Micky Johnson helped secure the win that day in Lancashire. 🤝 Tubbs went to visit former Sheffield Eagles legend Mick Cook last week to give him an early Christmas present. Heritage number #88, Mick has suffered with dementia for a number of years, but last week saw him get presented with an Eagles 40th Year Anniversary jersey. 👊 Mick made a total number of 259 appearances for the club, which saw him go on to score 22 tries and 88 points during his ten-year association with the club as a player, before he went on to spend a three-year spell as an Assistant Coach working alongside Tubbs. During the visit, Tubbs also met up with former Eagles Kitman, Ted Dowde. We’d like to wish Mick, his partner Karen, and Ted, a Merry Christmas from everyone at Sheffield Eagles. #WeSupportDementia #OneClub
