It’s time for some #FridayFeedback! “Working in partnership with SIAS over the past 12 months has brought real benefits to Tiro, our employer customers and our learners. The SIAS model of providing end-to-end support and guidance to Tiro and our customers helps us to build strong relationships throughout our apprenticeship programmes, so that when the learners reach the end of their practical learning period they are as prepared and ready for EPA as they can be.” A huge thank you to Paul Masterman MBA, CertEd, Director of Apprenticeship Operations at Tiro, for all your support! #doingthingsdifferently Steve Smith

SIAS and CATCH announce another milestone in their partnership as CATCH becomes the second SIAS Approved Centre. SIAS, a leading Awarding Organisation for science, manufacturing, engineering and low carbon industries and CATCH, a leading apprenticeship and training provider in the Humber region, are delighted to announce that CATCH has officially become the second SIAS Approved Centre. This achievement, following closely after SIAS’s launch as a full Awarding Organisation in September, highlights both organisations' commitment to raising standards in training, qualification provision, and assessment within STEM industries. Steve Smith, Managing Director of SIAS, said: “We are thrilled that CATCH has become our second Approved Centre post our move to full AO status, and will be delivering our new suite of L2/3 regulated Qualifications in Process Industry Manufacturing. “This is a major milestone for both organisations and reflects our mutual dedication to delivering high standards in STEM training and qualification provision, aligned to labour market demand across what are key industries for the UK economy.” “CATCH’s approval follows a thorough review process that ensured they are fully equipped to deliver SIAS qualifications effectively. It also builds on a strategic partnership established in 2023 between SIAS and CATCH, to support apprenticeships and employers across the Humber region through provision of EPA services.” Eve McIntosh, Head of Outreach and Engagement at CATCH, shared: “We’re proud to be one of the first providers approved to deliver SIAS qualifications. This approval strengthens our relationship with SIAS and underscores our shared commitment to delivering high-quality, industry-relevant training that meets the evolving needs of the sector.” The partnership is effective immediately, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in apprenticeship and training excellence for the Humber region. #AwardingOrganisation #partnership #qualifications

This time last week, we had the pleasure of attending the AELP Autumn Conference 2024 in Manchester, joined by over 250 industry colleagues. The event provided a platform for us to engage and discuss key challenges and opportunities shaping the skills and apprenticeships landscape. It was great to hear from Jacqui Smith, the new Skills Minister, who brought a refreshing tone to the conference. Her ambition to create a more straightforward, inclusive, and improved skills system was well received. Steve Smith, Managing Director of SIAS, said: “It was good to get a sense of positive engagement from the new Minister, she made it clear that there is a willingness to work with, not dictate to, the wider sector – that gave me encouragement, and I was also receptive to what I felt was overall a more ambitious mindset, aligned not to negativity, but instead to trying to create conditions for success for the sector, which is something I’ve been calling for – all of that was a good start! A vision for a more simplified and streamlined system is again something which all stakeholders could agree with.” “Whilst the defunding of L7 Apprenticeships has both pros and cons, it was good that at least there was some transparency on that issue, and it was very encouraging to hear a real commitment from the Minister to a deeper dive look at Functional Skills English and Maths. Addressing these persistent barriers to entry and exit for Apprenticeships could be a huge quick win, and deliver profound positive impact across the Apprenticeship landscape.” “However, despite many positives, I was left still somewhat frustrated at the continuing lack of detail and timelines around some crucial initiatives, such as Skills England, Foundation Apprenticeships, Levy Flex, and broader funding allocations. The longer these details remain uncertain, the greater the potential impact on employers, providers, awarding organisations, and—most importantly—learners. Clarity is everything!” “Finally I thought Andy Burnham spoke with immense passion and legitimacy around the real opportunity that a high quality devolution model, implemented well, could deliver to the skills sector, something which I feel could play a critical role in that simplification narrative, and empower a more agile set of solutions aligned to industry and regional labour markets.” “Thank you as well to everyone we had the pleasure of talking to on our stand…. lots of fruitful discussions that we’re following up now we’re back in the office.” If you're interested in learning more about how SIAS is partnering with Providers and STEM Employers to deliver outstanding outcomes reach out at partnerships@siasuk.com #AELPAC24 #AwardingOrganisation #Skills
