Can you imagine sleeping in a dustbin for security, quiet and warmth? Women are forced to do that to stay safe on our streets. It's unacceptable. And it shouldn't be happening. That's why we're working to address the systemic inequalities that prevent women who rough sleep from accessing the support and accommodation they desperately need. Every woman deserves a place to call home, to be seen, heard and feel safe from harm. #WomensHomelessness #DomesticAbuse #HomelessnessAwareness

Homelessness is a brutal and traumatic experience that places immense strain on people's health. It's not just #roughsleeping. Even the threat of homelessness can affect someone’s wellbeing. That’s why we prioritise mental and physical health in our work with Londoners. Our specialist teams ensure our clients get the support they need, breaking down barriers, building trust and improving access to healthcare services. 🩹 Find out more about our #HealthApproach on our website. #Health #PhysicalHealth #MentalHealth #Wellbeing #HomelessnessAwareness

We love this quote from our former client Zowie—something she wished she could have said to herself when she was experiencing #homelessness and struggling. Zowie's words were so motivational we printed them on a billboard*! #HomelessnessAwareness #ThursdayThoughts #InspirationalQuotes #Motivation (*Not actually though)

Have you noticed the new TfL #Overground line names celebrating a unique part of London’s history? We had an idea for another line…introducing the Four Pennies Line. 🪙 Back in the day, Londoners experiencing homelessness could stay at night in a ‘coffin house’ for four pennies a night. They would get food, shelter and a resting place—in a coffin-shaped wooden box. ⚰️ These ‘coffin houses’ were one of the first homeless shelters. They were created during the late 18th/early 19th century by the Salvation Army. It was a brutal existence but a small respite from the biting cold. 🥶 Luckily, we’ve come a long way since then, with much-improved services and support…but these early shelters are worth marking as a step to help Londoners living on the street, providing necessary relief from London's streets. 150 years later, we wish shelters were a thing of the past, but they still provide necessary respite for Londoners struggling with housing. We’re working every day to end homelessness in the capital. What line would you like to see in the future? Let us know in the comments.👇

🌟 HIGHLY COMMENDED 🌟 We're delighted that the Women's Rough Sleeping Census has been recognised at the #UKHousingAwards, shortlisted and commended as one of the Homeless Projects of the year. We know existing statistics significantly underestimate the number of women who are rough sleeping on our streets, many of whom are hiding away for their safety. Organised in partnership with Solace Women's Aid, the census aims to change that. It uses a gender-informed approach to help improve our understanding of the extent and nature of women’s rough sleeping. The 2023 census expanded out of London, with 41 local authorities getting involved. It was delivered by charities and organisations nationwide. The results were stark; our data estimates there may be up to nine times as many women rough sleeping across England than the Government’s annual Rough Sleeping Snapshot suggests. This isn't okay, and we're working to change things for the better, ensuring all women experiencing #homelessness get the support they need and deserve. The results from the 2024 census will be available next spring. And a HUGE congratulations to all the incredible projects nominated! 🎉 #UKHA2024 #HousingAwards #WomensHomelessness #HomelessnessAwareness #CharityTuesday

As well as hundreds of frontline roles supporting #homeless Londoners, we also have many staff who work in our central teams, helping our services across London. Meet Vernon, our IT Helpdesk Officer! 👋 Vernon supports our staff behind the scenes with their IT issues and queries, helping to keep everything running smoothly. “I’m fascinated with technology, anything to do with it—the latest gadgets, tools, phones on the market. I want to know how it works, what it does, and what the specs are.” “My team have been fantastic. They eased my nerves and helped me learn the ropes. I feel welcomed and supported and know I can count on my colleagues whenever I need help." Thank you, Vernon, for all your fantastic work - and find out more about working for us here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eh9ipUsK #CharityJobs #WorkForUs #HomelessCharity #ITSupport #CharityTuesday

Domestic abuse is a significant cause of homelessness for women. Our research into women's homelessness found domestic abuse and other forms of gender-based violence are a 𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿-𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 for women who experience homelessness. This means women navigate homelessness very differently to men, forced into hidden homelessness or keeping out of sight if forced into #roughsleeping. This pushes women further from support, often prolonging their trauma. With today marking 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, we'll be speaking about #womenshomelessness over the next two weeks. We'll be highlighting the links between #domesticabuse and #homelessness, how we support women and how we're working to influence politicians to ensure services meet the specific needs of women experiencing homelessness going forward. The cold, ice and snow might be gone... ... but now we have rain and wind. It is brutal out there. Our outreach teams are continuing to support Londoners off the street, including into our emergency winter shelters in Camden and Westminster, which opened due to the Severe Emergency Weather Protocol (SWEP). We're happy that we can help keep Londoners safe during this wintry weather - but no one should be sleeping on our city's streets ever - not just when the weather is terrible. #SWEP #StormBert #BadWeather #Winter #Flooding
