Day two of the #buildingplymouth Get into Construction programme was fab. Fantastic to host today’s first Plymouth Armed Forces Covenant theme group meeting for ‘Future Careers and Employers.’ Working together we will enable better access to local employment, skills and training opportunities for military service leavers, working age veterans, military families including spouses, partners and young people. We will be engaging with the city’s Armed Forces signatories and local employers to actively recruit from this community as part of our talent attraction and retention drive for Skills4Plymouth. With thanks to Darryl Newman from University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust for acting as our Chair and to Jon Beake from Wessex RFCA for joining us today to update on the Covenant. Thanks to David Podd at Barclays for hosting our meeting and to everyone who joined us. #Skills4Plymouth Plymouth City Council Victoria Mead Emma Hewitt

Day one of our #buildingplymouth Get into Construction programme was a great success. After a scene set on the amazing career opportunities available right here in Plymouth from Morven the group took a behind-the-scenes look at the work Building Plymouth member TEC Construction Ltd is leading on for Plymouth Guildhall’s heritage project. The talk on the importance of health and safety on a live site will be invaluable prep for their CSCS tests! Thanks TEC! Excited for day two tomorrow 👷♀️👷♂️ #Skills4Construction #BuildingPlymouth Plymouth City Council

Today Emma and Jo represented the team at Plymouth CFO Activity Hub’s launch and met with the team behind this great initiative. The incredible new space on Princess Street offers much needed support for those on probation or licenses looking to find purpose and community to develop wellbeing, skills and relationships to engage with support services and activities. We are looking forward to working with the Plymouth team to support with signposting to training employment and education opportunities as a part of this journey. #Skills4Plymouth #Plymouthworkingtogether Plymouth City Council Seetec

What a brilliant end to the #BuildingPlymouth M&E pilot programme. Over the past two days partners have come together to support those transitioning from HM Armed Forces or working-age veterans with engineering-related skills, knowledge and experience, to connect with the local building services sector to better understand the well-paid career opportunities available in electrical and mechanical design, installation and maintenance services. Today we were hosted by ME Contracting (MEC) and given a really informative and inspiring presentation by Brendon Houghton and Matt Bolt. The group were able to look at how their qualifications mapped across to the M&E sector and what the shortage areas and skillsets are that are needed. We then went to visit a site that ME Contracting (MEC) are working on with Lewis Wells and Brothwell Irvine Ltd. Lewis has transitioned out of the forces and is now a contracts manager so it was really great for the group to hear from someone who had been where they are now and the route that he took to where he is today. A huge thank you to ME Contracting (MEC) T Clark and Dodd Group for taking us behind-the-scenes. Hopefully we’ll be able to offer more sessions like this in 2025. #Skills4Plymouth #PlymouthWorkingTogether Victoria Mead Morven Maclean Emma Hewitt Plymouth City Council

Great to collaborate with JEM Scaffolding once again at Skills Launchpad today! A special highlight was seeing Martin who brought Victoria, who we recently supported into employment, return to inspire others. They joined Construction Coordinator Gareth Geen in welcoming eight enthusiastic candidates eager to step into the scaffolding sector: One highly experienced individual starting work tomorrow! Four candidates with CSCS cards embarking on a work trial on Monday. Two young people will be supported with training and employment opportunities. One candidate starting in the New Year after completing his CSCS qualification. A huge thank you to JEM Scaffolding for their incredible support and continued partnership in helping individuals build meaningful careers. Together, we’re creating opportunities and transforming futures! #BuildingPlymouth #Skills4Plymouth
