Last night found me at the British Business Awards —this time, as a judge. When you get the chance to stand on the other side of something you’d normally strive for, take it. It offers perspective and lessons. As I judged and selected businesses, I had to adopt a resolute mindset. The temptation to shortlist everyone was overwhelming; because I know what it takes to build a business. The internal battles you fight, the changes in personality (true), the external forces you push against, and the opinions you must learn to ignore. To those running a business, those who’ve been nominated but not shortlisted, or those shortlisted but who didn’t win, please hear this: ‘𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒕 𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒊𝒔 𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒂.’ A powerful reminder from Theodore Roosevelt. To everyone in the arena- those whose faces are marred by dust, sweat, and blood, those who strive valiantly- I salute you. Keep running, keep rising.
