We have been working on 124 Theobalds Road with London Structures Lab, providing a ground investigation in the basement in an occupied building and a fabric survey across two phases, with the second phase due to finish up in the New Year.
It is a delight to see 124 Theobalds Road out in the public domain. The modest external amendments don’t reveal the surgical incisions that we have developed with Orms, to open up the floors and create modern workspace whilst retaining as much of the building fabric as possible. The building has a complex history, having been built in the 1950’s using the emerging concrete technology and innovation at the time, but then heavily altered in the 1990’s. However, with some great record information we have been able to develop a scheme that maximises the opportunities: relocating the stability system without introducing major temporary works, pushing the 'lean' 1950s concrete design further to maximise new services distribution and even utilising an old crane base as the foundation for a new extension. #StructuralEngineering #Construction #ConcreteTechnology #LondonStructuresLab

My apologies on my tardiness - the day job got in the way! On the third to the seventh day of Chistmas my true love gave to me... FIVE more bite-size guides: Foundation Selection - Rob Terrell & Jai Shah BRE Special Digest 1 - Emma Anderson Geotechnical Risk Categorisation of a Structure - Dr Vincent Nyambayo CEng FICE Geotechnical Reporting - Georgina Donbroski Stiffness, Compressibility and Consolidation - Luke Wilkinson Unfortunately, I can't upload 5 documents. but if these topics tickle your interest then get over to the AGS (https://lnkd.in/eugDiR4W) and download the guides for free. More guides are also available. Engineers and geologists active in the industry have all written these guides while juggling normal project life. They have all been peer reviewed by other members of the Geotechnical Working Group within the AGS - Association of Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Specialists. A huge thanks goes to all of the authors above, Chris Raison for driving the EC7 guides and Alex Dent for his ongoing chairing of the working group. If you work in the industry and you / your company is not a member of the AGS then ask yourself why.
